Join our dynamic team in the Mississippi Alabama Region of Weyerhaeuser's Southern Timberlands division! As a key player reporting directly to the Columbus Wood Flow Manager, you'll be based in Columbus, MS, and engage in significant travel to various logging sites. This role offers an exciting blend of fieldwork and strategic planning, where you'll oversee harvesting operations and contribute to our mission of responsible forestry. Key Functions:
- Contract Administration: Manage and implement harvesting and transportation strategies to meet planned volumes and market commitments.
- On-site Verification: Conduct on-site verification of harvest plans to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Negotiation and Supervision: Negotiate harvesting contracts and supervise harvest operations to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure contractor safety compliance during all harvesting activities.
- Product Merchandizing: Optimize product utilization and merchandizing to maximize value.
- System Updates and Monitoring: Maintain timely system updates and monitor contract performance to ensure alignment with objectives.
- Environmental and Quality Compliance: Enforce environmental compliance, ensure quality in thinning operations, address contract noncompliance and performance issues, and manage logging road maintenance activities.
Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in forestry or a related field, or equivalent experience
- A degree coupled with 2+ years of relevant experience required, 5+ years preferred
- Commitment to and the ability to exemplify and promote a safe work environment
- Fundamental negotiation skills
- Proficiency in determining and applying conversion factors between alternate scales and weights
- Understanding of quality specifications for raw materials across customer markets and how log characteristics impact delivered raw material and standing timber values
- Ability to leverage cost, volume, quality, and other supplier data for performance evaluation
- Knowledge of safety, environmental, labor, and transportation laws and regulations pertaining to harvesting operations
- Excellent oral and written communication abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Willingness to thrive in a self-motivated, self-directed work environment where effective time management is crucial
- Familiarity with total system concepts and demonstrated competence in collaborating across business and organizational boundaries
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software such as Word and Excel, along with various other computer software and applications
- Possession of a valid driver's license and adeptness in safely operating a vehicle
- The ability to safely navigate active harvesting sites, which typically involves maneuvering on uneven terrain and being in close proximity to heavy operational equipment.
