Alberta Health is seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager, Policy Coordination to provide strategic advice and ensure the effective coordination of departmental policy priorities. This pivotal role leads the unit's mandate to support all Alberta Health Divisions in aligning, coordinating, scheduling, integrating, and developing identified policy and legislative priorities.
As Manager, Policy Coordination will serve as the primary policy coordination contact across the department, working collaboratively with staff at all levels and liaising with Executive Council offices, including the Policy Coordination Office.
Role Responsibilities
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as a Manager, Policy Coordination. In this key role, you will provide strategic policy oversight, coordinate complex initiatives, and build essential relationships within the department and across the government to ensure successful integration, coordination, and alignment of policy priorities. You will play a critical role in advising senior executives, managing priority initiatives, and leading a dedicated team to achieve departmental goals.

Strategic Policy Oversight & Issues Management:
- Collaborate with the DMO, ADMOs, branch staff, and subject matter experts across the Department on policy coordination and scheduling.
- Identify emerging priorities and assist in positioning them for senior executive decision-making.
- Develop and maintain critical planning documents for approved initiatives (multi-year strategic policy, legislation, and regulation plans).
- Liaise with branch and department staff of all levels to track policy and legislative priorities.
- Ensure that all stakeholders are informed of timelines, responsibilities, and milestones for ongoing projects.
- Track and report department priority initiatives for Executive Council on behalf of the department.
- Advise program areas to ensure consistent, high-quality preparation of briefings and cabinet submissions.
Project Management:
- Lead coordination and integration of various programs and projects as directed by the DMO, including development of briefing materials.
- Work with the Department, DMO, and PCO/CPE to review and coordination approvals of the Department's Strategic Engagement Plans.
- Foster a collaborative working environment within the department and across ministries to facilitate effective policy development and integration.
- Ensure seamless integration of activities with other divisions, departments, and agencies.
Leadership & Staff Management:
- Manage day-to-day operations of the unit, ensuring priorities are met.
- Provide strategic and business leadership, ensuring staff have the necessary tools, knowledge, and skills.
- Lead staff development through coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluations.
- Manage recruitment and hiring processes for unit staff.
- Act in the capacity of Director, Policy Coordination, as required.
Tool, Framework, and Model Development:
- Identify emerging trends in policy development and integration, sharing best practices with stakeholders.
- Develop internal documents to support staff in preparing decision-making documents.
- Support cross-divisional staff in applying policy coordination processes aligned with departmental priorities.
