Your Role

The Chief Financial Officer will play a critical role in the building and shaping of the finance and accounting function for Gates Ag One. This role will drive strategic oversight and portfolio management of the organization's financial resources; lead the overall financial strategy, budgeting, planning and forecasting in concert with CEO, the leadership team and the board. The role will report to the CEO.

This role will be responsible for developing and refining financial processes and reporting for decision making as Gates Ag One evolves and matures.

What You'll Do
  • Develop and execute the organization's financial strategy to support long-term growth and operational efficiency.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and board of managers on financial matters.
  • Assess and mitigate financial risks while ensuring the company maintains a strong financial position.
  • Accountable for the development and execution of the organization's integrated planning and budgeting processes
  • Collaborate with Operations to align financial strategy with business objectives, ensuring seamless integration of financial principles, operational processes, and organizational goals
  • Develop and implement the use of analytics to inform financial decisions for leadership, functional teams and board of managers.
  • Oversee complex projects that require financial expertise including partnering with various teams around specific strategic transactions
  • Adhere to Gates Foundation financial policies and develop affiliate processes that impact organization, ensure program policies conform to foundation-wide standards, and provide appropriate deliverables.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with CEO, leadership team and Gates Foundation finance staff and to make sure financial needs are supported, while also maintaining responsibility for high quality interactions and clear, consistent communications with grantees and partners in the field.
  • Responsible for the development of the 4-year forecast process that aligns with the business strategy, including the documentation of agreed upon cross-functional assumptions, for future tracking and annual adjustments.
  • Coordinate with Gates Foundation CFO to share best practices, develop policy, and provide input on overarching issues.
  • Responsible for the successful implementation of internal audits in coordination with the Gates Foundation Audit Team and internal controls.
  • Responsible for hiring and managing the talent needed to achieve the organization's goals including developing a finance function.
  • Accountable for integration and driving progress against DEI organizational goals and division commitments.
  • Foster enabling conditions for talent to thrive and be accountable for inclusive team culture.
  • Model and coach equitable decision-making, inclusive behaviors & actions; address escalated issues in a timely fashion.


Your Experience
  • Advanced degree or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong partnerships across organizations and influencing stakeholders to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Experience developing, implementing and managing the financial planning aspects of an organization, preferably including portfolio management or resource allocation planning.
  • Pragmatic approach to evolving systems and processes that takes risk and simplicity into consideration and recognizes impact as the end goal.
  • Strong expertise in financial reporting tools and dashboards for financial planning and analysis purposes.
  • Familiarity across financial planning/analysis, portfolio management, corporate finance, accounting/controls, tax, audit and complex financial transactions.
  • A deep commitment to the overall mission of the Gates Ag One, as well as an approach consistent with the foundation's culture.
  • Outstanding leadership and managerial skills, with a strong preference for a track-record of managing managers. Experience hiring, developing, and retaining diverse, highly performing professional teams.
  • Deep understanding of Ag Finance practices
  • Effective contributing partner on an executive or leadership team. Demonstrated ability to partner with and influence at senior levels of the organization, including the CEO and board, among others.

The salary range for this role is $328.400 to $509,000 USD. As a mission-driven organization, we strive to balance competitive pay with our mission. New hires salaries are typically between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint. Actual placement in the range will depend on a candidate's job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process.
