The Position: The HSE Specialist is responsible for assisting Channahon to achieve and maintain compliance with Styrolution HSE polices and applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulatory requirements for the operation of the permitted site.
What you will do:
Ensure Compliance and Safety: Oversee inspections, emergency response systems, and maintain a high level of visibility in the facility to support safe operations and maintenance activities, ensuring a safe workplace.
Collaborate and Develop Programs: Work with internal teams to implement and maintain HSE procedures, training programs, and continuous safety awareness initiatives.
Incident Management and Emergency Preparedness: Lead emergency response drills, respond to incidents, and develop emergency pre-plans to ensure swift and effective actions during emergencies.
Waste Management and Environmental Compliance: Manage hazardous waste activities, ensure proper disposal, and track waste inventories in line with RCRA regulations and sustainability goals.
Support Health, Safety, and Environmental Monitoring: Oversee periodic safety inspections, air quality monitoring, and hazardous substance management, ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
Process Safety and Risk Management: Lead or participate in incident investigations, hazard analyses, and risk assessments to mitigate potential hazards and improve plant safety operations.
Contractor and Security Oversight: Manage contractor safety programs, ensure proper coordination of HSE projects, and serve as the alternate Facility Security Officer to maintain secure operations.

What you will bring:
- Level of education & knowledge:
- Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or 5+ years' experience working in a chemical plant environment is preferred.
- Knowledgeable in HSE Technical Areas preferred.
- RCRA hazardous waste knowledge desired.
- Must possess or be able to obtain Class K wastewater treatment operator, and non-transient, non-community public water supply (NTNCPWS) certification.
- Experience in General
- Previous experience as part of an emergency response team strongly desired.
- Technical skills:
- Demonstrates understanding of operations.
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to correctly interpret and apply HSE laws and regulations and industry.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft and Adobe software and ability to develop competency in the use of ancillary software applications used by the site.

The annual base salary for this position typically ranges between $103,249 and $154,874. Additionally, employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus as part of their total compensation package. This salary range is an estimate based on factors such as candidate qualifications, operational needs, and business performance metrics. Actual compensation may vary above or below the stated range, as permitted by applicable laws in Illinois.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At INEOS Styrolution, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are carefully made based on the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
