Job Purpose
The HSE Manager manages process hazard review, technical data, services, and information pertaining to health, safety, and environmental concerns to ensure an effective program in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Manages corporate safety program by developing policies, reviewing technical data, and implementing new procedures to ensure a safe work environment in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local safety regulations at all sites.
Develops, monitors, and controls the administration component of the 5S system; responsible for developing and updating the audit format; puts together audit teams and regularly inspects and scores plant areas. Provides feedback to area champions after the audits.
Administers environmental and safety programs such as hazardous wastes, pollution reduction, industrial hygiene, OSHA, fire safety and prevention, etc., to ensure that standards, policies, and procedures are adhered to in compliance with corporate, federal, state, and local requirements. Maintains the environmental compliance and permitting.
Assists in the development and maintenance of ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 procedures and policies.
Conducts and reports on semi-annual safety audits at each site to ensure legal compliance.
Reviews projects such as new site construction, remodeling, etc., for process hazard review and provides guidance for complying with regulations; develops air permits.
Provides safety training such as supervisor training, spill containment, safety workshops, etc., to enhance in-plant safety programs.
Monitors accidents/injuries and develops procedures through accident reporting to decrease the accident rate.
Resolves safety and environmental processing issues by implementing process improvements at all sites.
Reviews MSDS for products; assists with product safety for the R&D group related to FDA, NSF, or other regulatory agency requirements for product health and safety.
Promotes the current quality system through adhering to the elements and being familiar with the philosophy, quality statement, quality manual, and procedures. This position also has the responsibility and authority to prevent the occurrence of product nonconformity.
Promotes the MTQ philosophy throughout the organization by setting a positive example and positively participating in cross-functional problem-solving activities.
Attend and participate in Powder Plant Programs/Committees/Training as required, such as Department Safety, Plant Safety, Behavioral Safety, Housekeeping Audit Teams, ISO, Life Saving Rules or any other safety programs.
Participate in the Powder Safety Journey. Adhere to the Golden Principle which is Simply to intervene to stop work if conditions or behavior are unsafe.
Performs additional duties as required including developing and monitoring fire protection requirements, monitoring exposure levels for employees, promoting environmental regulations, etc., to ensure a safe workplace and compliance with the law.
Job Requirements
Bachelors Degree in Engineering and 5-7 years of process HS&E related experience required.
Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
Knowledge of policies, functions, and operation of company.
OSHA and hazardous materials exposure in the workplace, principles and practice of the requirements of federal, state, and local regulatory agencies is required.
Fire protection standards, occupational health laws, loss control and prevention principles and practices as relates to the workers' compensation law.
ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18001 experience preferred.
Benefits/Rewards
The salary range for these skills is: $102,000 to $113,600. This is the range that we in good faith anticipate relying on when setting wages for this position. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This salary range may also be modified in the future.
