Job Summary
Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Clinical Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Manager in providing overall leadership and direction for the units or areas of responsibility and for creating an environment that fosters a multidisciplinary team and collaborative approach to care that achieves operational and clinical "Best Practice".
The Clinical Supervisor plans, implements, and evaluates care based on priorities and the specific patient care outcomes. Evaluates the effectiveness of care for all patients; teaches, leads and is a role model for members of the care teams; assists in analysis of patient care and care variances for nursing department; demonstrates clinical competency and critical thinking; demonstrates expert knowledge of health system and unit specific structure, process and standards; participates in performance improvement activities, and takes initiative in improving aspects of quality patient care.
Supports, and is responsible for incorporating into job performance, the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the FH Compliance Program, including following all regulatory requirements and the FH Standards of Behavior.

Physical Demands:
Medium-Heavy Work - Lifting up to 75 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes) and/or carrying up to 35 pounds while walking. Pushing or pulling up to 115 pounds infrequently or greater than 115 pounds occasionally (no more than once per hour).

Pay is based on experience, skills and education. If position is part-time, salary will be pro-rated based on scheduled hours. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on specialty if applicable. Non-Exempt positions may have shift differential and/or Overtime paid, if applicable.
Salary Range: $78,690 - $119,850

Example of Essential Functions
- Coordinates and supervises Kline Hospice House and Hospice Navigators at Frederick Health Hospital
- Collaborates with all members of the healthcare team to coordinate the management of patient care through the hospital stay and discharge process.
- Monitors clinical care of the department and implements clinical standards.
- Assumes departmental management responsibilities in the absence of the Manager
- Supervises and provides direct patient care in accordance with accepted nursing standards while utilizing the nursing process.
- Makes frequent patient rounds to assure the quality and appropriateness of patient care.
- Identifies areas needed for improvement in patient care delivery and plans for effective change. Serves as a resource to staff, colleagues and other departments.
- Prepares patient care assignments considering the skill mix and competence of the staff and the patient care needs.
- Assures a safe patient care environment.
- Coordinates the maintenance repairs and environmental health needs for the department.
- Assures safety/emergency checks are done according to department standards.
- Monitors cleaning log, informs Charge Nurse of tasks to be completed/assigned. Monitors/tracks maintenance issues/repairs and reports to Manager/Director.
- Assures that the daily reports and records are complete and accurate.
- Provides the support necessary to assure appropriate patient/family teaching and discharge planning.
- Provides supervision of clinical staff.
- Coaches, counsels, mentors, and evaluates clinical staff.
- Assists with evaluation process.
- Monitors and follows up appropriately with staff regarding work performance and reports to Manager.
- Provides for the development of the staffing schedule for the assigned department.
- Forecasts scheduling deficits and implements corrective action as necessary.
- Assures time and attendance records are completed for payroll.
- Disciplines and terminates department staff in collaboration with the Manager/Director and Human Resources.
- Completes four (4)-week staff schedule.
- Determines staffing needs using the electronic scheduling system, vacation requests and Report Express.
- Makes staff schedule changes according to staffing numbers once schedule has been completed.
- Prepares time cards for Manager approval. Expected to work occasional weekends to complete time card adjustments/schedule changes/electronic scheduling system updates, etc., and other functions.
- Participates in the management of other Department Resources.
- Collaborates with the management team to develop and achieve departmental goals and objectives.
- Interprets departmental goals and objectives for nursing and medical staff.
- Participates in the budget process by providing input into departmental needs, and participates in the implementation of the approved operational budget.
- Provides cost saving suggestions to the Department Manager.
- Participates in Performance Improvement activities for the health system and department.
- Identifies opportunities for improved services and quality of patient care.
- Actively participates in the department PI activities.
- Encourages and arranges for staff involvement in PI efforts.
- PI data collection such as: AIDET, Flash Sterilization record/log, OR/SP Issue form/log.
- Prints reports from OR Manager as needed.
- Monitors compliance with documentation and other standards and participates in activities to improve performance.
- Plans for own professional development and continuing educations.
- Completes 28 continuing education hours per year in addition to basic employment standards.
- Participates on health system, departmental and nursing committees and task forces as appointed.
- Searches for opportunities to expand skills in leadership.
- Performs other duties as requested.

Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland.
- Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
