Statement of Purpose:

The Nurse Director of Inpatient and Respiratory Care is a key strategic partner to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)/VP of Patient Care Services. The Nurse Director is an administrative leader responsible for Patient Flow management (which includes the Administrative Clinical Supervisors and the Staffing Office), clinical practice on inpatient units, respiratory care department, personnel leadership and financial performance that supports MRMC's goals of quality care for patients, quality of work life for employees and fiscal success. The Nurse Director of Inpatient and Respiratory Care may assume administrative responsibility for Patient Care Services when delegated by the Vice President, Patient Care Services.

The Nurse Director is responsible for direct leadership of the Inpatient Nurse Management team and Patient Flow Manager. The Director of Inpatient and Respiratory Care is responsible for planning and evaluating the delivery of patient care services within the inpatient nursing areas; Respiratory Care department and assumes responsibility for integrating the values and goals into performance improvement initiatives and patient safety activities, and serves on committees, task forces and work groups as needed. In collaboration with the CNO and other Nurse Directors, will evaluate and make recommendations regarding the infrastructure to support quality and excellence in patient care and process improvement for the Department of Nursing.

Qualifications:

Education:
  • Master's Degree in Nursing or related field required.

Certification / License:
  • Current Massachusetts Registered Nursing Licensure, certification in specialty area highly desirable.
  • BLS, ACLS

Experience:
  • 5-10 years of nursing experience in an acute care environment.
  • 5+ years of direct management experience including dealing with complex issues or equivalent
  • Excellent writing skills and demonstration of good project and people management skills are required.
  • Superior communication skills; skilled listener and encourages direct, open, and honest conversation keeping all staff apprised of appropriate information;
  • Proven ability to take initiative and build strong and productive personal relationships
  • Excellent coaching, conflict resolution and mentoring skills
  • Effectively manages team performance, including setting and holding employees accountable to established performance expectations. Ability to deliver effective feedback in a positive and constructive manner
  • Ability to develop and foster relationships with both internal and external clients, medical staff and other clinicians
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment, utilizing problem-solving skills, creativity, and critical thinking.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, and drive employee engagement and teamwork
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and drive performance and process improvement initiatives
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to present at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to formulate and execute strategic plans for the organization Demonstrated ability to make timely independent or team-led decisions based on available sound data and seasoned analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide others in financial decision making and management of expenditures and resources consistent with strategic initiatives.
