Day-to-Day Responsibilities/Workload
Position Overview
The Senior Engineer position within the SP&E Civil Engineering group will be responsible for providing technical leadership related to Client land development projects including grading, drainage, paving, roadways, walls, water/sewer, and other related designs. Client facilities include transmission roads, substations, battery/energy storage facilities, etc. This position will represent the Civil Engineering organization and be responsible for providing technical guidance to other Client organizations during planning, design, and construction phases of a project. This position will also be responsible for mentoring other civil engineers, providing QA/QC for peer reviews, managing engineering contractor deliverables, and developing group standards and guides.

Typical Responsibilities
Strengthen safety by integrating safety in engineering design and fostering a workplace culture that prioritizes safety in the office and the field
Serve as the civil engineering lead, delivering and supporting projects with construction design drawings, specifications, reports, calculations, and engineering construction support. Provide technical leadership for civil scoping, cost estimating, and scheduling.
Collaborate with multiple internal Client organizations (project management, engineering disciplines, construction, environmental, real properties, etc.) and external clients and agencies having jurisdiction over the work.
Participate in job walks across Client territory, including transmission roads, towers, substations, and other facilities. Site visits may involve walking several miles on hilly terrain when vehicle access is unavailable. In addition to office days, expect to travel to jobsites 1-2 days per week on average. Jobsites span Client 50,000 square-mile territory, from Santa Barbara County to the Nevada and Arizona borders, and down to Riverside, Orange Counties, and the Greater Los Angeles area.
Manage engineering contractors including defining scopes of work, reviewing proposals, approving invoices, ensuring quality deliverables and adhering to schedule commitments
Mentor junior engineers and support the engineering team in the PIV office 2 days a week

Required Skills/Attributes
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
8 or more years of experience in civil engineering/land development design
Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Civil Engineering from a U.S state
Proactive communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills
Proven experience communicating clearly with multiple stakeholders via Teams video calls, emails, and in person meetings
Experience collaborating with field personnel and providing engineering construction support
Experience with agency permitting and approvals for engineering construction deliverables
Experience with mentoring junior civil engineers
Proven ability to prioritize and manage a heavy workload

Desired Skills/Attributes
State of California Professional Engineers (P.E.) license in Civil Engineering
Experience in civil/land development design for transmission or utility roadways in various terrains, including steep rural areas in California or similar regions
Experience in civil/land development design for substation facilities and transmission access roads
Experience in providing storm damage support
Proficient in managing purchase orders and overseeing engineering contractors
Experience with local and state agency permitting and approvals in California
Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, Bluebeam, and Microsoft platforms (Teams, Outlook, Sharepoint, etc.)
