Job Description
Maternal Fetal Medicine
The UAB Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology announces the opening of a faculty position to bolster its Maternal-Fetal Medicine portfolio. Recruitment is for an open rank/open tenure earning faculty applicant with a M.D. or D.O. degree at all ranks. The primary focus of this position is clinical care in the comprehensive area of high-risk maternity and fetal care. The faculty member will also be engaged in educating medical students, residents, and fellows within the department.
The UAB Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) provides nationally recognized specialized care in the diagnosis and management of obstetric, medical, surgical, and fetal complications of pregnancy. Our clinical sites not only include the UAB main campus Women's and Infants Center - boasting the state's largest fetal care center, robust comprehensive antepartum care, and inpatient management including labor and delivery services - but also a growing portfolio of community outreach locations in the greater Birmingham area, Tuscaloosa, and in more remote locations via telehealth. In fact, UAB Women's and Infant's offers the most comprehensive maternal, fetal, and child health programs in the state of Alabama - with approximately 4500 annual deliveries, the only Level IV NICU in the state, and a large growing division of pediatric subspecialists including the states' only pediatric neurosurgeons and cardiac surgeons. In fact, it is physically adjacent to Children's of Alabama - the largest children's hospital in the state - as well as the Wallace Tumor Institute - the states' only NCI designated cancer center.
Additionally, the MFM Division offers the only comprehensive programs in the state focusing on placenta accreta disorders, substance overuse disorders, pregnancy in patients with adult congenital heart disease, uterine transplantation, and multidisciplinary care with pediatric subspecialists. Associated with the only Level IV NICU in the state, UAB MFM offers a wide array of cutting edge maternal-fetal care and pioneering innovation in maternity health care. Our team is resourced to provide evidence-based, compassionate care for optimizing pregnancy outcomes. Our group of 12 board certified physicians, the largest single MFM practice in the state, provides exceptional team-based collaborative care in maternal and fetal disorders, contributes to innovative research, and mentors the next generation of MFM subspecialists. Furthermore, we have providers that are also further subspecialized in MFM alongside certification in genetics - one of the only combined positions in the state of Alabama.
In addition to the numerous available clinical opportunities, UAB MFM is also nationally recognized for its MFM fellowship program - one of the largest in the country - as well as its highly ranked OBGYN Residency Program. The UAB Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology also currently ranks as the 10th highest NIH-funded OBGYN program and the institution as a whole is ranked 22nd. As such, the Department is very committed to growing its current research, education, and implementation efforts in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
Unique opportunities of this position include access to ground breaking, world-renown research through the Center for Research in Women's Health, built in mentorship opportunities for early and mid-level faculty, professional development support for continuing education, involvement with training the next generation of MFMs and OBGYNs, as well as a team based approach to care with an attractive schedule, including call schedule, built for a sustainable work/life balance. Finally, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology provides a fair and transparent salary and benefits package; including additional incentive mechanisms which create a highly competitive compensation structure when compared both regionally and nationally.
The successful applicant will hold a M.D. or D.O. and completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology with fellowship training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Applications must be submitted electronically via the link below. All applications should include a CV, one page letter of interest, and three professional references to Dr. Akila Subramaniam, Division Director - Maternal-Fetal Medicine at asubramaniam@uabmc.edu
