The ideal candidate will be a transformational & innovative IT infrastructure leader at a complex organization. The Chief Technology Officer must have a proven record of driving transformation and building best-in-class IT Infrastructure capabilities with innovative delivery models.
The ideal candidate will be a commercially inclined, energetic, and pragmatic IT infrastructure leader with the ability to create real value through the alignment of technology and business interests. In keeping with The Hartford's culture, this executive must be a collaborative, hands-on, dynamic leader whose track record buys immediate credibility across a diverse business. Just as importantly, this person must be the consummate communicator, able to influence and build meaningful relationships outside of the IT function and across all levels of the enterprise.

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. The Chief Technology Officer will be accountable for:
- Driving and enabling our business partners and cloud transformation program through the evolution and enhancement of our Infrastructure engineering and operations capabilities.
- Leading the Infrastructure operating model transformation, and workforce shifts, to maximize operational and cost efficiencies with the migration to the cloud.
- Building trusted partnerships with all stakeholders and demonstrating a collaborative work style in partnering with Cloud, CIO, Data, and Cyber Security leaders.
- Driving all aspects of IT infrastructure, including all private/public Cloud engineering and operations, application middleware/integration platforms, platform as a service (web and application hosting, database services, environment engineering, container services), infrastructure as a service (data center, mainframe, compute, storage and other related towers), infrastructure as code/automation, network services, end user computing, collaboration technologies, service management, as well as the enterprise risk and compliance (disaster recovery, vulnerability management, etc.), model.
- Overseeing the end-to-end design and integration of infrastructure components in a hybrid cloud environment to maintain workflow continuity. Accountable for IT stability, reliability, resiliency, and infrastructure risk/security compliance across the enterprise, including definition, creation and maintenance of a risk control framework that effectively manages security, risk, and regulatory commitments.
- Maintaining and maximizing the availability, quality, currency, resiliency and efficiency of core and critical IT Infrastructure services, through ongoing automation and the utilization of emerging technologies. He/she will also drive transformation initiatives to sustain top quartile operating standards by leveraging leading market practices.
- Cultivating an innovative culture of new ideas and capabilities with strategic partners and market leaders.
Additional responsibilities:
- Transformation and operational accountabilities for enterprise platform, infrastructure, and network services, focused on elevating The Hartford's infrastructure cloud capabilities and providing a level of advancement in technology to further the businesses' leading position in the market with a full technology stack across traditional and modern architectures.
- Providing Collaboration Technologies, End User Services, Service Management Technology, ITIL Service Management Services and Infrastructure Security Operations to support enterprise needs, delivering on end user requirements, maintaining enterprise stability, and continuously evolving and modernizing available services to improve workforce productivity and optimize operational cost.
- Develop and maintain a sustainable IT leadership organization through the hiring, performance management, coaching and development of a multi-discipline organization, including managing strategic business and vendor partner relationships to create value for the organization. Lead transformational change management initiatives as senior business executive and key sponsor to the critical projects initiated, including championing the adoption of an inner- and open-sourcing delivery culture to expand sourcing options and prescribe to a continuous learning and improvement mindset for the organization.
- Partner with technology and business leaders to define the infrastructure strategy and ensure that it is fully integrated into the business strategy.

The ideal candidate will be a commercially inclined, energetic, and pragmatic IT infrastructure leader with the ability to create real value through the alignment of technology and business interests. In keeping with The Hartford's culture, this executive must be a collaborative, hands-on, dynamic leader whose track record buys immediate credibility across a diverse business. Just as importantly, this person must be the consummate communicator, able to influence and build meaningful relationships outside of the IT function and across all levels of the enterprise.
Specific requirements include:
- 20+ years IT experience in a large corporation with multiple lines of business.
- Deep experience leading large scale transformation efforts to the Cloud. Demonstrated ability to own, transform, mature and deliver enterprise technology services.
- Experience in engineering and operations executive leadership roles with a demonstrated track record of technical innovation and leading technically diverse teams.
- Experience in IT infrastructure management in a complex environment across modern architectures and technologies to traditional platforms in a hybrid cloud environment.
- Proven experience in IT strategic planning and capability development with success implementing technology strategy and roadmaps for a diverse enterprise portfolio.
- Extensive knowledge of running and maintaining cloud-based and hybrid services across various service delivery models, as well as compute, storage, and databases.
- Deep understanding of DevSecOps and Site Reliability Engineering with proven track record of leading a team to transform the efforts of an engineering organization.
- Track record of building strategic partnerships with leading service providers and evolving sourcing models/contracts, including managed service contracts as well as co-development of innovative solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to function as a strategic thought leader and be seen as a credible business partner by peers, clients and the extended Tech, Data & Analytics, & Cyber leadership team.
- Ability to create and sustain a high performing team by recruiting, retaining, developing, performance managing and pipelining diverse talent. Experience developing top talent for succession planning.
