Job Location:

This role will require 20% travel per week by car between 2 Grand Toronto Area locations: 4 days at our Toronto office and 1 day at our Mississauga office.

Shifts Available and Hours:

On-site position, Monday to Friday, from 8 AM to 5 PM.

Job Summary:

The Cost Analyst will be responsible for preparing financial reports, conducting cost analysis, overseeing inventories, and supporting digital solutions for product costing across two locations. They will collaborate with various teams, identify cost-saving opportunities, and support decision-making. The Cost Analyst will report to the Controller.

Required Education/Experience:
  • At least 5 years related experience in similar roles preferable including experience in a plant operation environment.
  • Bachelors degree in finance, accounting, business related field.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
  • Manufacturing accounting experience (an asset).
  • Proficiency in SAP: experience with Excel, Oracle systems, and management costing processes is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment with a solid understanding of cost accounting principles.
  • Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • General knowledge of accounting/finance principles and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Professionalism and excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills in English (both verbal and written).
  • Must be a team player.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze daily/weekly reports; and month-end activities such as inventory reconciliation, closing journal entries, accrual management, third-party inventory reconciliation, scrap analysis, KPIs, and metal report planning.
  • Inventory Management: Oversee monthly physical inventories, including weekly inventory forecasting and monthly physical inventory counts, ensuring accuracy and alignment with financial records.
  • Collaborative Operations Support: Work closely with operations teams to ensure accurate inventory transactions/expenses and their correct reflection in the General Ledger.
  • Manufacturing Costing: Collaborate on the implementation of digital solutions for product cost planning and manufacturing cost analytics to drive efficiencies and accuracy.
  • Cost Variance Analysis: Perform detailed cost variance analysis, identify discrepancies, and work with the operation team to resolve issues.
  • Expenditure Monitoring: Monitor operating expenditures and review open purchase order (PO) reports to ensure proper budget controls are maintained.
  • Fixed Asset Reporting: Prepare, review, and present monthly/annual Fixed Asset and Leased Asset reports in a timely manner. Liaise with the procurement team to track and report capital expenditures related to fixed assets.
  • Financial Cost Support: Provide support for cost control, working capital management, and track the performance of capital improvements against projected outcomes.
  • Cost Benefit Decision Making: Support management in making informed decisions based on cost and benefit analyses, including cost/pricing changes and investment strategies.
  • Cost-Saving Initiatives: Identify and report cost-saving opportunities to the Controller and Plant Manager to help improve operational efficiency.
  • Audit Compliance: Provide support for internal audit compliance (ICFR) and ensure adherence to relevant financial controls and procedures.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional duties as required to support the financial and operational goals of the organization.
