GENERAL SUMMARY:

Efficient and robust control systems are the key to effective manufacturing equipment and associated processes. This position is responsible for all aspects related to automation, process control, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), manufacturing automation systems, applications, and resources across all Crayola plants. This position will lead a team that provides high level controls design of new equipment, significant machine upgrades, and support of maintenance technicians on existing automated high volume processing, assembly, and packaging systems.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides feasibility assessments and assigns priorities for controls and automation-focused projects.
  • Provides guidance, training, and regular performance reviews for team of engineers and technicians.
  • Execution of capital projects including tasks such as financial justification, planning, scheduling, designing, programming, testing, and commissioning control systems.
  • Develops and enforces machine-safety control standards in accordance with generally recognized industry standards.
  • Manages team adherence to safe work practices.
  • Provides professional technical support and leadership on electrical controls development, maintenance, and troubleshooting across all manufacturing processes.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts, analyze data, and help drive key process related decisions.
  • Provides technical leadership in the design and maintenance of multiple industrial communication protocols and the physical industrial network.
  • Provides detailed technical input on capital projects and process development.
  • Provides advanced level technical expertise in machine qualifications at suppliers and in house.
  • Provide adequate document management of all machine software and revisions on a regular basis to avoid any production interruptions.


JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Electrical or Electronic Engineering; Advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum (10) years of manufacturing support experience in Electrical, Electronic, and Industrial Controls including experience in debugging PLC and using various controls software
  • Minimum (7) years direct management of technical staff
  • Strong understanding of Rockwell software such as Studio5000, RSlogix500, and FactoryTalk
  • Strong understanding of Rockwell Kinetix motion control systems and applications
  • Experience in the specification and installation of industrial and/or collaborative robotics
  • Experience using data collection such as Wonderware AchestrA and InSQL
  • Must have a working knowledge and applications of all NEC and NFPA codes
  • Strong knowledge of electrical safety and industrial power distribution
  • Knowledge of control networks including DeviceNet, ControlNet, Remote IO, Data Highway Plus, and Ethernet
  • Ability to provide clear technical communication, both written and verbal
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD electrical schematic design
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent projects, write RFAs, and manage contractors
  • Must be available to handle calls during standard off-hours to support manufacturing equipment troubleshooting
