About the Role
We are seeking a scientifically grounded and forward-thinking Director of Medical Communications Strategy to lead the development and delivery of high-impact strategies across a wide range of Medical Communication initiatives. This role combines client consulting, scientific storytelling, and strategic execution across the Medical Affairs landscape.

The ideal candidate will have deep experience in a MedComms agency environment and a strong understanding of how Medical Affairs teams operate in pharma. You'll act as a key strategic leader within our Strategic Services department-driving client impact, internal delivery excellence, and ongoing evolution of our service offerings.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Director of Medical Communications Strategy, your time will be distributed across three main focus areas:

Service Development & Offering Evolution (~25%)
  • Continuously refine and elevate MCE's strategic service offerings by conducting market research, synthesizing client feedback, and drawing from delivery insights and changing customer needs.
  • Help shape new frameworks, tools, and methodologies that position MCE as a thought leader in scientific and Medical Communications strategy.

Client Consultation & Strategic Design (~25%)
  • Partner with Account Managers to engage clients in strategic conversations, diagnose communication challenges, and co-create tailored solutions that meet Medical Affairs objectives.
  • Lead the development of foundational strategic deliverables, including scientific platforms, communication roadmaps, message frameworks, and audience journeys.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to biopharma clients-bringing clarity, insight, and actionable direction to complex medical narratives.

Strategic Execution & Project Oversight (~50%)
  • Support internal teams in delivering projects aligned with both the client's Desired Future State and MCE's overarching vision.
  • Lead or contribute to key strategic workstreams, such as:
    • Audience analysis and stakeholder mapping
    • Communication audits
    • Scientific story and narrative development
    • Scientific communication platform creation
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to cross-functional delivery teams, ensuring quality, consistency, and strategic alignment throughout execution.
  • Proactively train and upskill internal teams on MCE's strategic frameworks and best practices.
Qualifications
  • Advanced science degree required (PhD or PharmD).
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in a Medical Communications agency in a strategic or scientific role.
  • Experience working in or alongside Medical Affairs teams in the pharmaceutical industry is a significant advantage.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead high-level client conversations and develop trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of the Medical Affairs landscape, including publications, scientific platforms, congress strategies, and field medical support.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize and simplify complex scientific data.
  • Comfortable working in a lean, fast-paced, and collaborative environment.
  • Experience mentoring junior strategists, writers, or scientific team members is a plus.
