Position Description
The City of Tacoma and Tacoma Public Utilities are establishing an eligible list for Safety Consultant that will be used for one year. The Safety department has a current vacancy.
As a Safety Consultant you are responsible for ensuring compliance with State and Federal regulations by administering safety and DOT support. In this role you will support senior safety staff with the implementation of projects and initiatives to reduce risk and financial exposure across the city.

Bachelor's degree in safety or directly-related field
Minimum Experience*
1 year of experience administering health, safety or loss prevention programs; or 5 years of directly-related safety experience in the area of assignment.
*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
Washington State Driver's License. Additional licenses may be required, based on assignment.

Position Description

- Promote and support operational department's safety culture, compliance, training and field operations
- Provide guidance to all levels of the organization within the City of Tacoma to provide on-site safety solutions and assist with assuring compliance with federal, state health and safety regulations
- Conduct workplace inspections, audits and field site visits and evaluates city department workforce and physical property to assure compliance with federal and state regulations
- Provide health and safety training
- Coordinate with departments to assure compliance with worker's compensations programs
- Investigate incidents and injures; recommends corrective actions
- Conduct industrial hygiene sampling of potential occupational exposures to workplace hazards
- Evaluates the effectiveness of safety programs
Qualifications
