Job Description

The Director Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) is responsible for the development and implementation of environmental, safety and regulatory compliance policies and procedures for the America's North Region. They will oversee the EH&S program to ensure programs are consistent with O-I's corporate philosophy and will increase profitability through reduction of loss exposures, increased employee awareness and compliance with legal obligations.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Hires, develops, coaches, mentors the talent for the EHS function in the AM-N Region
  • Lead the organization with a strategic forward thinking mindset on environmental and safety issues and trends.
  • Will ensure that safety is the strongest of all values at O-I and is properly embraced and led by our leaders in the region.
  • Develops, maintains and executes our environmental and safety programs.
  • Interfaces with estimating/budgeting team by assisting in cost evaluation and various EHS program designs.
  • Provides technical guidance and support to global EHS and operations teams.
  • Effectively presents EHS information to the AM-N Region executive management.
  • Provide guidance to direct reports on common inquiries or complaints, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
  • Maintains proper safety staffing on projects and facilities.
  • Implements processes and standards to support company strategies including the interpretation and application of broad policy guidelines.
  • Works with the Global EHS to establishes all policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA and other rules, regulations, and codes with all local, state and federal laws in both safety and environmental areas.
  • Advises management on issues related to food safety, crisis management and regulatory compliance.
  • Remains current on trends, practices and legal issues.
  • Assigns or conducts random safety audits and reviews results using statistical evaluation, audit reports and feedback.
  • Oversee all reporting, compliance and incident management.
  • Models and reinforces safety as a top priority of the organization, as well as holds a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to collect, analyze and report out on EHS Metrics that include both leading and lagging indicators.
  • Provide technical Subject Matter Expertise on EHS related matters

SCOPE AND IMPACT

Provide EHS related services to the America's North Region that consists of approximately 20 locations across the geography with the primary function of the role focusing on execution of the One Plan EHS Strategy. Manage a team of 4-5 direct reports and approximately 20 indirect reports. Manage the annual OPEX and CAPEX spend within limitations of the budget and direct monies accordingly to address high risk activities. Successfully work within a matrix organization (both functional and operationally) to drive success in the EHS space within the company.

Qualifications

BS in Safety Sciences, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, or related degree. Masters of Science degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Environmental Engineering preferred. Ten (10) years of experience in a manufacturing environment with progressive upward responsibilities including multi-facility oversight. The following additional attributes include:

  • High level of business acumen
  • Understanding of cross-cultural issues
  • Proven track record with developing an organizations EHS Management Systems, Policies and Procedures.
  • Previous supervisory experience of EHS professionals or other personnel

What we offer at O-I:

Salary Range: The expected salary range for this position is between $165 K & $195 K. Additionally, this position will have the opportunity to earn 25% STI and 15% LTI. Actual pay will be adjusted based upon candidate experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
