Your Opportunity
Our Calgary design studio is seeking a highly motivated Senior Landscape Architect to join our Planning and Landscape Architecture team within the Community Development business line. Top candidates will have strong technical abilities, excellent graphic communications skills, be highly organized, and be able to work collaboratively but also work independently on projects through all phases of a project lifecycle.
You will have the opportunity to lead the planning and design of public and private projects across a range of scales and uses, including civic spaces, streetscapes, parks, residential, commercial, institutional developments, and more. We are seeking someone with interest or experience in working on a variety of municipal and architecture lead project types. You will build new relationships with our more than 250 landscape architectural staff throughout the organization. As part of Stantec's flexible workplace, this position provides the opportunity for splitting between working at home and from our open concept studio environment.

Your Key Responsibilities
- Serve as design/project lead and/or LA of record. Responsible for both project work and project oversight with a focus on urban/major projects (i.e. main streets, regional parks, public spaces/urban parks, design masterplans and strategies)
- Act as the design lead for urban transformation efforts. Responsible for promoting collaboration between the urban design and landscape architecture teams
- Core member of the LA senior team, supporting the Regional LA practice leader and Calgary's LA manager by providing insight and collaboration in the development and execution of team strategies and initiatives.
- Supervisor for select LA team members with a focus on urban/major projects
- Key member leading and supporting BD activities, including pursuit identification, strategy, and execution in Calgary and western Canada
- Contribute to and support strategic growth and development of other areas of Planning & Landscape Architecture (P&LA), in conjunction with other members of the P&LA leadership team
- Contribute and lead as a core member in the growth and development of the urban transformation stream; identifying; securing and executing design focused projects within Calgary and western Canada.
- Support in navigating challenges as they arise and provide strategic direction on key urban design/landscape architecture projects
- Provide mentorship for wider LA and Planning team, with focus on design members from both teams
- Support BC leadership in the coordination and refinement of Major Projects and Land Strategy initiatives
- Proactively engage and monitor urban design and landscape architecture related activity/policy and updates to be at the forefront of industry positioning/status
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- Proven design and technical knowledge of built environments as shown within a personal portfolio of completed projects.
- Must be strong with both clients and staff with excellent interpersonal skills in regards to leadership, mentorship, business development and communication.
- Possess a desire for quality design and the ability to detail and document ideas.
- Excellent oral, written, and graphic communication skills. Ability to present ideas and lead strategic discussions is a must; and
- Proven ability to turn design into working drawing and execute their implementation onsite.
Education and Experience
- A Bachelor's or Master's Degree from an accredited Landscape Architectural program, or related degree is required.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in a professional office setting focused within the fields of landscape architecture.
- Experience working with both the public and private sectors.
- Licensed, or have the ability to be licensed in Alberta for the practice of Landscape Architecture. Ability to expand licensure into other provinces.
