Automation Specialist
Position Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned Automation Technician with mid-level technical skills and expert insights gained through extensive experience. This role requires advanced problem-solving abilities in automation design, control strategies, and troubleshooting PLC logic control systems. The ideal candidate will possess entry-level integrator skills, working with engineering design documents to commission control systems, validate control loops, configure devices, and test alarms. This position contributes to design reviews, process hazard analysis, and serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in automation.
Primary Responsibilities:
Install, program, calibrate, and maintain automation equipment.
Diagnose and repair automation systems to ensure operational efficiency.
Provide on-site automation support for offshore oil and gas production operations.
Maintain and troubleshoot control systems and instrumentation, including level, pressure, flow, and vibration instruments.
Ensure maintenance activities follow industry and corporate process control standards.
Develop and maintain PLC programs using ladder logic, structured text, function blocks and AOI's.
Maintain and troubleshoot HMI operator interfaces.
Identify issues in control systems and recommend strategic improvements.
Utilize CMMS (such as SAP) for maintenance tracking and operations.
Assist with MOC process and project planning
Required Qualifications:
Experience:
7+ years as an Automation Specialist.
5+ years in oil field operations.
Technical Skills:
Mastery of programming, and troubleshooting.
Proficient in analog/discrete instrumentation and various communication protocols (serial, Ethernet).
Familiarity with industry standards (API, NEC, NFPA, IEEE, ISA).
Advanced PLC programming and HMI maintenance skills.
Strong MS Office and Windows OS skills.
Proficient with Rockwell (Allen Bradley) suite of software (Studio 5000)
Proficient with WonderWare InTouch Classic
Experience with Allen-Bradley and Rosemount systems
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Automation with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
9+ years of oil field experience, including 5+ years in upstream automation.
Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as Cause & Effects, P&IDs, and wiring diagrams.
Advanced troubleshooting of control networks, including ControlNet, Ethernet I/P, fiber optics, and Rockwell DLR.
OT Network skills - managed switches, fire walls (Hirschman/Cisco)
