Job Summary
As a Construction Manager I at Oncor, you will manage an assigned portfolio of Transmission construction projects. The number of projects will vary (100-250) with an individual project cost which may be $10,000,000 (or greater) and the total in the range of $750,000,000 per year.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Plans, schedules and directs employees and contractors on a portfolio of construction projects to maximize the utilization of resources and minimize risks related to safety of personnel (construction forces and public) and transmission facilities. In addition, develops the skill sets of employees and contractors to accomplish projects.
- Monitors status of projects (from planning status to completion) and keeps project stakeholders appropriately informed of project progress, issues and projected in-service dates. Recommends/implements corrective actions as appropriate.
- Properly resolves stakeholder issues (landowner/public issues, engineering design, clearance constraints, etc) which occur during construction activities.
- Ensures a safe working environment and quality control by assigning on site Field Construction Coordinator (FCC), conducting periodic field and safety observations, and leading incident investigations (safety and service interruptions) to determine root-cause.
- Coordinates other construction organizations (distribution, district, other utilities, customer contractor, etc) and acquires the system facilities clearances required for construction activities.
Education
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is required
- Applicant with a Professional Engineering license are encouraged to apply.
Experience
- Technical or related degree with at least 2 years in the design, operation and/or construction of electrical utility facilities OR
- 5 years of experience can be accepted in lieu of the above.
- Applicants with two years of experience in a project environment (preferably in a supervisor/manager role) are encouraged to apply.
Skills
- Technical skills required to understand the operation and design of the transmission electrical power facilities.
- Good interpersonal skills- effective communications, influencing the organization, leadership, motivation, negotiation and conflict management, and problem solving
- Some general management skills- planning, organizing, staffing, executing and controlling.
- Computer literacy- able to use the normal office products and learn to use the specific programs associated with Transmission Construction- Exceed on Demand, Transmission Outage Application, etc.
Measure of Success
- Completion of projects per required in-service dates
- Minimal incidents- safety and service interruptions
