Please Note: This is a temporary, full-time position.

Position Summary: New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) is the largest school system in the nation, with nearly 1 million students, 135,000 employees, including more than 80,000+ teachers and an annual budget of $38B. The Division of Contracts and Purchasing (DCP) is responsible for shepherding, managing, and registering all contracts, as well as for maintaining oversight of non-contracted spend. DCP is governed by the Procurement Policies & Procedures (PPP).

The Procurement Consultant will manage projects and support division- and agency-wide initiatives related to contracts and procurement. This position will work with procurement units, maintain a tracker of DCP information and will monitor progress towards completion of projects, supporting procurement units, schools, and CBOs to complete tasks assigned to them. The Procurement Consultant will maintain responsibility for several procurement actions, leading the contract from intake to completion and ensuring the procurements meet program office and school goals.

The Procurement Consultant provides strategic direction and makes recommendations to senior leadership regarding improvements to workstreams and processes that balance the integrity of the procurement process with the need for the timely procurement of goods and services. The Procurement Consultant will also provide project management and technical assistance to leadership and support cross-divisional teams focused on strategy and implementation. Performs related work.

Reports to: Various Hiring Managers across teams within DCP.

Key Relationships: Works with all levels of DCP staff; DIIT; and various City, State, and Federal agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Works and manages multiple projects and supports initiatives in DCP, under the direction of the Hiring Manager.
  • Responds to and implements ad hoc project requests from the Director and senior DCP / DOE leadership.
  • Coordinates resolution of high-priority situations and handles with the highest level of professional discretion and independent judgment.
  • Provides project coordination and technical assistance to the team in DCP, to schools, and to other offices to ensure successful policy implementation and programmatic initiatives.
  • Participates in team, office, and cross-divisional meetings, representing the team and providing project management support.
  • Supports strong, productive working relationships with partner offices to ensure effective, cohesive, and consistent policy implementation and protocols.
  • Prepares analyses, briefs, and memos for leadership on the status and progress of procurement projects.
  • Supports the development, coordination, and implementation of project plans to manage outreach to schools and monitor progress towards goals for procurement.


Qualification Requirements:

Minimum

  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience in an area related to the duties described above; or
  • High school graduation or equivalent and three (3) years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one (1) year of experience as described in "1" above.

    • Organizational skills, with a high attention to detail.
    • Excellent spoken and written communication and presentation skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including 365 and especially Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
    • Attention to detail and able to follow-through.
    • Time management skills, especially when handling multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.


    Salary : $40/Per Hour

    (Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
