POSITIONSUMMARY:
TheThomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University invites innovative andmission-focused individuals to apply for the Director of the Ken Gormley LawLibrary and Information Resources position. Duquesne seeks candidates who havethe energy, vision, and leadership to advance the development of all aspects oflibrary operations for the Ken Gormley Law Library. This position will providethe successful candidate with the opportunity to reimagine the role of themodern law library and further the Law School's mission of training ethical,practice-ready attorneys.
TheDirector will hold a law faculty appointmentwith security of faculty position in accordance with ABA standards. The Director'sfaculty rank and salary will be commensurate with experience andqualifications. This is a 12-month law faculty position reporting to the Deanof the School of Law.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees all operations for the Ken Gormley Law Library
Engages in strategic planning anddeveloping and implementing new initiatives to ensure the library is providingquality services for its constituents; this includes, but is not limited to,developing and delivering training on emerging technologies
Directs collection assessment anddevelopment at the library to support the curricular and scholarly needs of theLaw School community
Manages vendor relationships andcontracts
Works with the Dean, associate deans,and law faculty to identify, develop, and assess the library's role in the LawSchool's program of legal education and in meeting faculty scholarship andresearch needs
Supports the Law School administrationin data collection and retention to assist in maintaining compliance with accreditationstandards
Works with the Director of Business& Administration to develop budgetary goals and administer financialresources appropriately
Maintains a well-equipped law libraryspace to support the learning, research, and interactive engagement needs ofthe Law School community
Develops services to assist facultyand the administration in increasing scholarly impact and productivity at theLaw School.
Participates in activities related tofaculty governance, scholarly research, and professional service, as requiredfor appointed rank and established by the faculty handbook.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
AJ.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school and an M.L.S. from anALA-accredited program, a degree in information science, or the equivalentdegree
Preferredqualifications:
Comprehensiveknowledge of commonly used electronic and legal information resources, as wellas an understanding and interest in emergent technologies, including, but notlimited to, artificial intelligence and machine learning
Additional coursework or certification(s) in artificial intelligence, machinelearning, or data science
Understanding of machine learning principles and their application to legalresearch, and proficiency with major legal research platforms (e.g., Westlawand Lexis) and their generative AI features
Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to representthe library to multiple stakeholders and explain technical concepts tonon-technical users
Demonstrated leadership experience, including guiding strategic planninginitiatives, and overseeing management of budget and personnel
Knowledge of best practices, as well as current trends and innovations, inacademic law library administration and operation
Teaching experience in traditional classroom and online settings (asynchronousand/or synchronous)
Record of scholarly activity and/or professional service, includingpresentations, publications, and service to professional organizations
Active membership in the relevant professional organizations (AALL, etc.) andexperience in academic law libraries or similar environments
