Our Business Insurance Team is seeking a Director of Industry Segments for Educational Institutions to add to their growing team. This is a full time, exempt role. Candidates may sit anywhere in the country and operate in either a hybrid or remote setting.
Position Overview
In this role, you will be the national leader for one or more industry practices with responsibility for the top and bottom-line financial performance and strategic imperatives of the industry practice(s). You will develop and implement strategic solutions that align with the company's goals and the evolving needs of the insurance industry. As the industry expert, you will provide consultative guidance and direction on industry-related topics to key internal stakeholders. You will collaborate with internal teams, adjacent industry practice leaders, and line of business leaders to develop and implement effective strategies for the growth and success of the business. You will represent the company at industry events, conferences, and forums, building the company's brand and reputation in the insurance industry.

Key responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive solutions for the industry practices under your responsibility, covering aspects like product development, appetite, guidelines, pricing, and marketing. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure these solutions address customer needs and align with market demands.
- Set short and long-term strategic goals, operational priorities, and revenue growth forecasts for assigned industry practices, focusing on top and bottom-line performance. Recommends actions to improve profitability.
- Perform ongoing analysis, including industry level reviews with annual report out to senior leadership team and cross-functional business unit partners.
- Identify emerging trends, opportunities and challenges and develop strategies to address, collaborating with senior leadership to align solutions with the business unit's strategy. Continuously evaluate strategies and make necessary adjustments to adapt to changing market conditions.
- Track industry trends, Hanover claims trends, and industry best practices to offer insights and recommendations, including any necessary portfolio adjustments.
- Provide training and education for the field underwriting team, incorporating industry trends, Quality report analysis, portfolio insights, and feedback from cross-functional business partners.
- Contribute thought leadership through whitepapers, guidelines, and educational seminars. Create and maintain underwriting resources for assigned industries.
- Conduct market research and analysis to understand industry trends, competitor offerings and customer needs.
- Monitor and analyze competitive landscape and develop strategies to differentiate the company's offerings.
- Review and update industry strategies and policy forms, ensuring compliance with corporate underwriting strategies and regulatory requirements.
- Offer coaching and mentorship, guiding and supporting the professional development and career growth of colleagues striving to enhance their knowledge.
Core Competencies, Skills and Experience
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the insurance industry with a focus on solution development, strategy, or consulting
- Strong understanding of insurance products, operations, and regulatory environment
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Strong research, analytical, and decision-marking skills with great attention to detail
- Ability to think strategically and drive results in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment; able to confidently influence others
