The VP Chief of Staff (COS), Global Risk Services, plays a pivotal role in enabling Global Risk Services and more broadly RGA's global 2nd line functions in support of RGA's success. The COS will manage, prioritize, provide counsel to and help execute all key activities and demands for the SVP, Deputy Global Chief Risk Officer as well providing support to the EVP, Global Chief Risk Officer as required. This role will ensure integrated and aligned Global Risk strategy development, co-ordination and execution, working across the Global 2nd line of defense and with key partner areas in the 1st and 3rd lines.

Location: This role is hybrid and can be located in Toronto or Chesterfield offices.

Principle Duties:

Global Risk Services Strategy & Goals
  • Lead the annual strategy review process coordinating with Global Risk Services (GRS) Leadership team, Chief Risk Officers, HR and other resources to formulate strategic plans and set goals, aligning with the global risk function vision and mission as well as the broader RGA strategy.
  • Liaise with and consult global risk leaders and key partners to support and propose strategic alignments and realize synergies across the organization while maintaining diplomacy. Lead and direct across a wide span with influence and persuasion.
  • Oversee and ensure follow-up on the execution and delivery of Global Risk Services' strategic initiatives and projects, execute any assigned initiatives, implement processes for tracking and regular monitoring as well as progress summarization and communication, identify key issues and propose potential adjustments or corrective action plans.
  • Maintain external contacts and bring industry outlook perspectives and developments to strategy setting and reviews.


Global Risk Services and Global Risk Function Communication and Coordination
  • Develop communication strategies to facilitate communication and information availability and sharing for the global risk function.
  • Lead and facilitate functional communication efforts to ensure transparency of strategic direction and leadership intention across the global risk function as well as key partners. Support the development and communication of any organizational changes and updates.
  • Serve as a member of the Global Risk Services Leadership Team, driving agendas and accountability of takeaways and action items. Facilitate forward-looking discussions and decision-making regarding solutions and initiatives. Ensure an appropriate amount of leadership capacity is reserved for creative and forward-thinking activities.
  • Co-ordinate with other Chiefs of Staff across the RGA business to maximize efficiency and coordination.
  • Attend Risk Committee meetings (Insurance; Market and Capital; Operational; Capital) as required to ensure connectivity.
  • Act as the chair, facilitator and/or secretary for Global Risk Services sponsored committees and/or working groups as required.


Executive Support
  • Manage, prioritize, provide counsel to and help execute all key activities and demands for the SVP, Deputy Global Chief Risk Officer as well providing support, as required, to the EVP, Global Chief Risk Officer, including but not limited to:
    • Prepare all regular reporting ready for final review by the SVP.
    • Ensure agendas and meeting materials are prepared as required for meetings the SVP is responsible for including but not limited to Board Risk committee, Risk Management Steering Committee and Functional Town Halls.
    • As required, work independently or closely with partners to produce first drafts of work required to be produced by the SVP.
  • Attend designated meetings in place of the SVP as required.
  • Work as appropriate cross functionally to ensure cross functional work is coordinated, appropriately managed and tracked to completion.


Education and Experience :

Required :
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Actuarial Science, Business, Economics, Finance or related field
  • 10+ years of experience working across functions and disciplines, strategy, or consulting
  • 7+ years of relevant risk and/or actuarial work experience interfacing with and influencing senior leaders


Preferred:
  • Actuarial or Risk designation or MBA
  • Proven success in strategy setting and execution

  • Advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received by all stakeholders.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with different disciplines and functions within the organization.
  • Ability to work independently and highly self-motivated with a drive, initiative and capacity for challenging work.
  • Ability to multi-task, handle contending priorities and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to proactively offer ideas and solutions while anticipating potential roadblocks

Compensation Range:

Base pay varies depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and market location. In addition, RGA provides an annual bonus plan that includes all roles and some positions are eligible for participation in our long-term equity incentive plan. RGA also maintains a full range of health, retirement, and other employee benefits.
