About the position:
E Ink's Research and Development department is seeking a mechanical engineer who will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing a roll-to-roll pilot machine. They are involved in the entire product development lifecycle - from research and development to design and manufacture, and on to installation and final commissioning. As part of an innovative research team, this candidate will be the link between the lab research to scale-up pilot run.

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is $100,000-$140,000 for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay Area.

About the position:
E Ink's Research and Development department is seeking a mechanical engineer who will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing a roll-to-roll pilot machine. They are involved in the entire product development lifecycle - from research and development to design and manufacture, and on to installation and final commissioning. As part of an innovative research team, this candidate will be the link between the lab research to scale-up pilot run.
Responsibilities:
- Design/modify Roll to Roll equipment
- Interact with outside vendors/ equipment manufacturers
- Interact with EE and control engineers to integrate stand-alone parts into an R2R line.
- Design quick turnaround of prototype fixtures
- Work closely with R&D scientists and engineers and Pilot team to produce designs from existing Pilot prototypes.
- Create and adhere to scheduled delivery form outside vendors
- Use various CAD related software example (Solid Works , AutoCad) to create designs of equipment
- Design and assemble of AC/DC control cabinets for Roll to Roll tools used in the manufacturing of optical devices
- Equipment troubleshooting and maintenance
- Program PLC and HMI for full automation process in the R2R systems
Qualifications:
- Experience to design Roll to Roll equipment
- Experience with high voltage equipment similar to corona or atmospheric plasma R2R devices
- Designing annealing equipment for R2R
- Ability for quick turnaround of prototype fixtures
- Knowledge of various CAD related software example (Solid Works , AutoCad)
- Have proven track record in scaling process equipment from R&D sketch to production drawing
- Some experience in interaction between control and electrical engineers incorporating into mechanical design
- At least 3-5 years designing equipment
- Previous experience in delivering a production R2R equipment (example AMAT or Faustel) level is a critical skill needed for this position
- Ability to work in a divers teams (profession, experience or others)
- Good team interaction skills
- Good writing and communication skills
- BS (Mechanical, Industrial or related major) or AS with additional 5 years of experience is required
