We are searching for the best talent for Vice President, Medical Affairs to be in Toronto, Canada.

Purpose:

The Vice President of Medical Affairs will have responsibility for leadership and oversight of medical activities for the Canada business and will be an enterprise leader serving on the Canadian Leadership Team. Additionally, the incumbent will participate as a member of the Medical and Scientific Affairs community and work in close collaboration with the Global R&D and Regional Medical Affairs teams in North America and beyond. The VP Medical Affairs will report to the President, Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Canada.

You will be responsible for:

  • Design the medical affairs strategy and oversee the implementation of tactical plans necessary to cement and grow Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine Canada's portfolio across Oncology, Hematology, Neuroscience and Immunology
  • Achieve the clinical, scientific and value-oriented differentiation required to compete along the decision-making continuum for key marketed products through company sponsored research and Investigator Initiated Studies and the development of publication/communication strategies
  • Lead a broad team of approximately 100 and 5 direct reports with a focus on developing and motivating talent, team effectiveness and culture. Sub departments include: Medical Science, Medical Education, Medical Information and Medical Excellence
  • Champion and accelerate digital and analytic strategies to enhance stakeholder engagement, education, communication, and insight gathering
  • Create advocacy and partnership with Key Individuals (KIs) and external parties inclusive of medical societies and patient organizations, living and creating an environment of customer focus and centricity
  • Execute key clinical and operational activities
  • Provide medical and clinical leadership and oversight to Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine
  • Function as global medical team member and global product team member providing input to represent Canada Medical Affairs
  • Resolve and provide guidance on technical study design issues, regulatory requirements, treatments, markets, and competition, and leverage academic and industry contacts
  • Represent the Canada affiliate company at public forums and with scientists and the media
  • In conjunction with the Head of Regulatory Affairs, represent the company on an ad-hoc basis at the highest level at Health Canada and other regulatory agencies
  • Expand the Canadian pipeline through partnership with business development and global teams


Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Advanced degree required; MD, PhD, PharmD strongly preferred
  • 12-15 years of relevant experience required, including experience in the pharmaceutical and / or biotechnology industry. Preferred background in related therapeutic areas: Oncology, Hematology, Neuroscience and Immunology.
  • Familiarity with Health Canada requirements relevant to the roles and responsibilities
  • Demonstrated experience leading organizational design, planning and change efforts
  • Demonstrated experience leading directly and through others, coaching and motivating talent and teams at scale across a matrix; Multi-level people leadership experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience building a culture of innovation, competitiveness and collaboration
  • Demonstrated strong business acumen and understanding of market dynamics and value drivers
  • Demonstrated experience engaging and partnering with KOLs and important external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experience with new product launches and launch excellence processes
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate as medical spokesperson for external audiences and media
  • Demonstrated ethical and compliant leadership aligned to Credo principles
  • Experience with global strategic planning and portfolio development desired
  • Success working with global teams and regional initiatives
  • This position is based in Toronto and follows a hybrid schedule of three days in the office and two days remotely per week
  • Travel estimated to be 10-15% of time both internationally and in market
