Company Description
Reverb is the largest online marketplace dedicated to buying and selling new, used, and vintage musical instruments. We love working at Reverb because we're making the world more musical-through our marketplace and through Reverb Gives, which provides musical instruments to youth music education programs. We were named a "Best Place to Work" by Built in Chicago and a "Top Workplace'' by the Chicago Tribune.

Salary Range:
$84,000.00 - $108,000.00

The Data Scientist on Product Analytics will solve sophisticated challenges, in both strategic (e.g. design and plan) and tactical (e.g. implement and deliver) capacities. We expect that strong candidates will have 3-5 years of proven experience, and possess a combination of technical expertise in statistical modeling and data analysis, alongside excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills. Experience with machine learning is a plus.

This is a full-time position located in Chicago, reporting to the Data Science Manager. Our hybrid work model offers flexible workplace policies that can accommodate work from home candidates who are comfortable traveling to the office location 4+ times per month.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Partner with product teams to inform, advise, and guide decision making; build trust with team members as a technical and strategic advisor; understand the business problem and advocate for appropriate analytical or modeling approaches.
  • Collaborate with data professionals on Analytics, Engineering, and other partners to measure product performance, conduct experiment design and analysis, and develop analytic tools for business users.
  • Perform medium complexity analyses, contribute to research projects, and respond to partner requests with little oversight from manager or senior staff, balancing business needs with technical requirements.
  • Use statistically sound approaches, including A/B testing and experimentation, difference-in-differences, regression, clustering, and time-series analysis; this will often include merging and tidying data from multiple sources, aggregating and summarizing those data, conducting statistical tests, building models, and distilling the information learned to connect with less technical team members.
  • Communicate findings from analytics projects using data visualization and storytelling; this requires a deep understanding of the insights generated, the assumptions and qualifications of the analysis, the level of technical knowledge of the audience, and the set of decisions the analysis is intended to advise.

Tools
  • We primarily code in Python.
  • Most SQL-related work will involve Redshift; we use dbt for transformation.
  • We use a variety of Machine Learning techniques, including regressions, SVM, XGBoost, and neural networks; common packages include scikit-learn, PyTorch, SciPy, and BERT; we deploy models in the cloud via Ray and Anyscale.
  • We share most analyses via data visualization tools, specifically Looker and Amplitude, although deeper analysis will frequently require tools like matplotlib within a Jupyter notebook.
  • We use Slack, GitHub, Atlassian tools (like JIRA and Confluence), and GSuite (like sheets, slides, docs, and drive) to communicate, share, and document.
