The Principal, Inflight Dining and Service Quality is part of the Customer Experience- Inflight division. This role will streamline process, improve reliability and enhance the experience for frontline team members, flight attendants, and American Airlines customers.
What you'll do
As noted above, this list is intended to reflect the current job but there may be additional essential functions (and certainly non-essential job functions) that are not referenced. Management will modify the job or require other tasks be performed whenever it is deemed appropriate to do so, observing, of course, any legal obligations including any collective bargaining obligations.
Acts as an internal subject matter expert regarding quality assurance of onboard galley packing, equipment, and related policies and procedures for inflight catering in the commissaries
Ensures consistency in commissary operations between CLT and PHL facilities, adhering to Inflight Dining policies, procedures and achieving performance metrics
Identifies opportunities for process improvement by conducting audits and root cause analysis, reports findings to key stakeholders
Recommends and implements process improvements/best practices to optimize efficiency, reduce waste, and improve overall quality
Monitors progress to ensure continuous improvement and reduce customer complaints
Trains commissary staff on operations/performance policy and procedures
Collaborates with the Inflight Dining team, local commissary leaders, catering, inflight crew, and supply chain teams address catering issues, ensuring seamless coordination of provisioning
Ensures compliance with airline food safety, quality standards, and regulatory requirements
Monitors and manages budgets related to inflight commissary operations, identifying opportunities for cost reduction without sacrificing quality
Implements cost-saving initiatives and continuously evaluate the cost-effectiveness of services provided
Monitors and evaluates vendor performance, ensuring that suppliers meet the airline's quality, safety, and sustainability standards
Develops and manages special projects
All you'll need for success
Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
Bachelor's/ Master's degree or equivalent experience/training or equivalent training/experience
5+ years' experience in airline food and beverage and/or catering
Prior project management work experience
Must be able to travel up to 80%
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
Leadership experience in an airline caterer environment
Supply Chain management experience
Knowledge of food safety regulations
Food safety license preferred but not required
Familiarity with CAE Inflight scheduling system and Sabre
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
Knowledge of Microsoft Office to include Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Publisher
Strong creative, analytical, influencing, problem-solving and decision-making skills
Ability to work and make decisions independently with minimal supervision as well as function effectively as a member of a team
Ability to proactively identify solutions to complex issues
Ability to manage workloads with changing priorities, limited direction, and ease
Ability to concisely present work to internal and external parties
Ability to organize, lead, and plan projects
