The Associate Category Manager - Wellness is responsible for supporting their Category Manager in all aspects of category and supplier management, and COGS control within the Wellness space. Specific responsibilities run the spectrum from formulating and executing category strategy to the administrative tasks required for implementation. This is a full-time, salaried position located in-office 4 days a week (with 1 day remote) at our Central Store Support office (Rockville, MD) with occasional travel to stores, competitors and trade shows as required.
  • Collaborate with the Category Manager to achieve sales, margin, and unit growth, while fulfilling MOM's promise of an incredible selection.
  • Negotiate profitable and successful promotions and EDLP programs
  • Perform category reviews (in collaboration with CM and independently): develop & implement category strategies which support sales, units, margin dollars along with reducing waste.
  • Collaborate with the merchandising team to create & update planograms.
  • Perform period close & quarterly analysis: manipulate data to analyze cost, units, sales, and margin positions and identify tactics to improve.
  • Support the Category Manager in upholding ingredient and sourcing standards, including affidavits.
  • Assist in the exiting of disco items, new item set up, service agreements and season items rollout.
  • Develop and manage productive supplier relationships; participate/lead in broker, brand, and supplier meetings.
  • Assist with supplier management on multiple facets including fill rate, service level, product quality, shelf life, in collaboration with Supply Chain.
  • New store responsibilities including those per Asana board, determining & implementing regional specific assortment, new supplier partnerships, SPINS analysis.
  • Perform store visits as needed, regular competitor visits, and as needed supplier site visits.
  • Grow knowledge and skills by participating in tasks/projects/training and attending career-related MOM's learning events.

  • You'll bring:
    • Bachelor's Degree in related field
    • 2 years' experience with category management, supplier performance management, supplier negotiations, purchasing, promotions, and merchandising in a multi-store setting (in the Natural/Organic channel)
    • A deep knowledge of natural/organic food industry trends, products, and ingredient standards
    • Strong negotiation skills
    • Ability to develop, maintain, and manage strong supplier relationships
    • Analytical skills
    • Enjoys working with & manipulating large amounts of data, creating reporting
    • Previous experience collaborating with a merchandising team creating/updating planograms
    • Advanced proficiency with Excel, Pivot tables, Google Suite and Catapult or other POS/IMS systems
    • Highly organized, detail oriented, and easily meets deadlines
    • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, presentations) with multiple stakeholders
    • Ability to prioritize tasks that change frequently and manage unexpected demands
    • Dependable, follows instructions and takes initiative to solve problems

    The hiring range for this position is $76,000 - $88,000. We carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including job-related skills, experience, qualifications and competencies.
