Description:
Amazon Security is hiring for an experienced, self-motivated Security Engineer II with a background in vulnerability and risk management to join our Security, Risk and Compliance (SRC) team.
Our mission includes instilling awareness to safeguard all customer and employee data, applications, services, and assets. To accomplish this, we work with Amazon organizations to build security best practices into enterprise-wide systems. Our guidance and leadership equip our partners to maintain high security standards. Our programs stretch across all of Amazon Stores, Devices, and Others (SDO), giving you the opportunity to interact with product teams, industry specialists, security partners, and organization leaders.
In this role, you will help identify, analyze, and prioritize security risk identified through a variety of sources across Amazon. You will be part of a team of solving complex security challenges that have direct and measurable impact on our customers. Through this work, you will help drive leadership prioritization and reduce security and compliance risk.
Key job responsibilities
- Validate technical approach to security checks to ensure alignment with compliance program.
- Work with security teams across SDO to understand system architecture, technical needs, and compliance requirements and make recommendations on control design.
- Lead the identification and assessment of risk areas for commonality, themes, etc.
- Collaborate with business/service teams to understand and confirm security assessment scope and controls design.
- Review security controls - Logical Access, Change Management, Network Security, Cryptography, Data Privacy, Vulnerability Management etc.
- Provide technical guidance and recommendations on security requirements to development and operations teams, serving as a subject matter expert for security requirements.
- Create and manage remediation campaigns for identified compliance gaps, developing systematic solutions to address security issues.
- Design automation requirements for continuous compliance monitoring, developing scripts and tools to streamline compliance-related security check.
A day in the life
You will help align security and compliance across Amazon to ensure our technical approach to compliance is as efficient as possible, while increasing the security bar. You will identify risk areas through a variety of security assessments, evaluations, etc and ensure these risks are mitigated.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of any combination of the following: threat modeling experience, secure coding, identity management and authentication, software development, cryptography, system administration and network security experience
- Knowledge of networking protocols such as HTTP, DNS and TCP/IP
- Scripting or programming experience in Ruby, Python, Shell/BASH scripting, Java, C/C++, C*, Perl, or other languages
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Understanding of cloud computing services/deployment architecture.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
