JOB DESCRIPTION:

Professional Days and Orientation: July 1-3, 2025

JULY 4, 2025 is not a workday for Summer School staff

The ESY Administrator works closely with the site-based Summer School administrator to oversee the elementary and secondary ESY programs across all sites, including the work of all ESY Coordinators. Applicants must be available in the spring to attend meetings, hire the summer school ESY staff, help with determining use of space at selected sites, assist with class schedules, registrations and plan staff development for ESY staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include:

  • Plan and coordinate ESY services for the school district
  • Plan for staffing allocations
  • Review and revise ESY job descriptions as needed
  • Work closely with the summer school office to plan for summer services, locations, transportation and staffing
  • Interview and hire teachers, assistants and related service providers for ESY
  • Provide implementation guidance on ESY
  • Provide professional learning to teachers and assistants
  • Provide on-going support during the implementation of ESY services at all sites
  • Participate in all required summer school meetings and trainings
  • Work with designated officials to monitor allocations for all ESY programs
  • Work with case managers and other designated staff regarding student placement
  • Set expectations, and support sound instructional practices for ESY staff
  • Develop initial communication with teachers and parents on expectations for student behavior and follow-up as necessary
  • Manage serious student incidents as needed
  • Handle parent inquiries and concerns related to the implementation of ESY services
  • Work closely with transportation staff and summer school administrators to resolve any transportation issues or requests that may arise
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned
EXPERIENCE: QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualifications:
  • Virginia Teaching Certification
  • Virginia Administrative Certification
  • Previous experience with Summer School program implementation
  • Knowledge of APS policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of research-based, current curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive practices
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures governing Special Education
  • Knowledge and understanding of Extended School Year Services for SWD

APPLY TO: SALARY:
Summer School Teachers who are APS employees during the year will be paid their hourly rate or $36.68 per hour., whichever is higher. (Please note Salary earned relative to summer school employment will not be included in the employee's creditable compensation amount reported to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).) Retired APS teachers will be paid $49.29 per hour per APS pay plan. Non-APS licensed summer school teachers will be paid $36.68 per hour.
