Job Description
The Executive Director of Payroll establishes and oversees a best-in-class payroll organization, driving innovation and efficiency, and aligning payroll functions with broader organizational goals. This role is responsible for developing, executing and overseeing an enterprise-wide payroll strategy - leading the transformational roadmap within a rapidly growing and evolving health system.
This position ensures compliance with regulations and collaborates with various departments to enhance service delivery. The Executive Director will also ensure systems and internal controls adequately support Cedars-Sinai payroll processes, employment taxes, and all applicable labor laws, and compliance with wage and hour laws and federal and state regulations.

The Executive Director of Payroll establishes and oversees a best-in-class payroll organization, driving innovation and efficiency, and aligning payroll functions with broader organizational goals. This role is responsible for developing, executing and overseeing an enterprise-wide payroll strategy - leading the transformational roadmap within a rapidly growing and evolving health system.
This position ensures compliance with regulations and collaborates with various departments to enhance service delivery. The Executive Director will also ensure systems and internal controls adequately support Cedars-Sinai payroll processes, employment taxes, and all applicable labor laws, and compliance with wage and hour laws and federal and state regulations.
Primary Responsibilites and Duties:
- Establish and effectively execute payroll department strategy and goals.
- Lead, mentor, and oversee the payroll team, ensuring professional growth and performance excellence.
- Direct and audit payroll procedures to include earnings, garnishments, tax withholding, pay integration with state agencies as necessary.
- Assist senior leadership in defining organizational goals and strategic plans related to system wide payroll operations.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance payroll processes and systems.
- Serve as the subject-matter expert for the payroll software platform (Oracle) and work collaborative with the leadership and team that oversee the time & attendance platform (UKG).
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of the Company's payroll in accordance with federal and state regulations and legislative compliance requirements. Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, and regulations.
- Oversee payroll audits, ensuring accuracy and transparency in all payroll-related activities. Provide audit and oversight to the team's activities and processes, ensuring that pertinent and internal and external compliance standards are met.
- Maintain confidentiality of any payroll, private employee information and ensures payroll information is secure.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of the Company's expense reimbursement payrolls.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree (minimum requirement) in finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Tax, or a similar analytic discipline.
Work Experience:
- 10+ years of progressive payroll experience for large organizations (more than 5,000 employees). Experience with multi-state employment preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in a leadership role
