Medical Surgical Registered Nurse Nights to support the mission at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (Bethesda, MD)
Qualifications:
- Minimum Educational Requirements: Accredited school of Nursing (Diploma, AD or BSN)
- Certification/Licenses Requirements: RN with a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is desired
- Minimum Experience: Three (3) years full time experience within the last five years in Caring for Adult patients in an Acute Care Setting
Job Description:
- Possess knowledge of a wide range of medical disorders/conditions, diagnostic studies and treatments related to prevention, and detection of illnesses in adults. Knowledgeable in professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to perform nursing assignments of moderate difficulty and experience in assessing adult and geriatric patients, as appropriate.

- Knowledgeable of equipment and supply terminology and skill sufficient to identify and use necessary equipment and supplies properly and to communicate proper use with nurses, medical staff, patients, and family members.
- Assess patients' conditions for potential or life-threatening crises. Distinguish between normal and abnormal physical findings (from physical and vital sign assessments). Plan appropriate nursing care set forth by the MTF, and IAW JC guidelines
- Make rounds, evaluate patient's condition, answer questions, give instructions, take vital signs (TPR, BP), and check functioning of medical equipment. Record vital signs and observations IAW Documentation policy and standards of care.
- Make rounds with physicians: Prepare equipment and supplies and assist physician during treatments and examinations, cleanse wounds and incisions, change dressings and other. Prepare and administer prescribed medications. Start, replenish and discontinue IVs and blood. Manage PCA pumps, and epidural infusions.
- Care for patients with mechanical ventilator, operate defibrillator, EKG machine, and cardiac monitor.
