SUMMARY

The World Languages/Multilingual Learners Department Chair serves as the academic leader and administrative coordinator for the World Languages/Multilingual Learners Department. This individual provides instructional leadership, supports teacher development, and collaborates with school leadership to ensure high-quality teaching and learning aligned with school and district goals.

A committee chaired by Mr. George Dagres, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, will screen the applications, schedule interviews, and recommend appointing the individual nominated to fill the vacancy to the Superintendent of Schools.

QUALIFICATIONS

The specific standards related to this position's certification requirements are established and governed by statutory regulations (The School Code of Illinois, Section 21). A major job responsibility of this position includes the evaluation and supervision of certified staff members. These duties require the Department Chairperson to possess an Administrative (Type 75) certificate or a Teacher Leader endorsement and have passed the Illinois Performance Evaluation Growth through Learning Training Modules.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

It is expected that the candidate will present a record of successful experiences which indicate potential for outstanding leadership and performance in the following responsibilities:
  • develops and leads the vision of the World Languages/Multilingual Learners Department in alignment with building and district goals
  • possesses the knowledge and expertise to lead departmental Professional Learning Teams
  • possesses the knowledge and expertise to use data-driven decision-making and research to inform decisions with a specific focus on equity for our students
  • possesses the knowledge and expertise to provide feedback to staff and help coordinate or lead professional learning opportunities for staff to grow in their instructional practices
  • supervises and evaluates teachers and teaching assistants using the Danielson Framework
  • participates in the interview process for teaching positions
  • builds department master schedule in collaboration with the Associate Principal
  • articulates the World Languages/Multilingual Learners program with the sending schools
  • engages parents and community members in program advocacy
  • represents the school at local and regional meetings
  • teaches at least one class within the World Languages/Multilingual Learners Department
  • collaborates with the World Languages/Multilingual Learners district leadership team
  • develops and manages the departmental budget
  • maintains equipment and supplies for the department
PROFESSIONAL EXPECTATIONS

It is expected that, at a minimum, the candidate will present:
  • the ability to provide leadership and vision for the implementation of systems and practices that promote inclusion, equity, and anti-racism throughout the school
  • address and resolve staff concerns, conflicts, or performance issues in collaboration with school administration and the human resources department
  • a record of demonstrated personal and professional competence of exemplary high school teaching of World Languages
  • a record of professional activities related to teaching World Languages/Multilingual Learners demonstrating potential for leadership
  • experience in a building or district leadership capacity is preferred but not required

SKILLS TO SUPPORT THESE RESPONSIBILITIES including but not limited to
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Maintains punctual and regular attendance.
  • Intermediate computer skills include Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite experience, and social media platforms.
  • High level of integrity and trustworthiness, maintains confidentiality/privileged information.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to provide consistent, high-quality work, with attention to efficiency and accuracy and maintain deadlines.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple tasks in a timely manner.
  • Other skills and qualifications that the Board and Administration may establish.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to work in a typical school environment, including standing, sitting, and using technology.
  • Flexibility to attend meetings, school events, and professional development outside of school hours
    as needed.

SALARY & BENEFITS
  • The starting date is on or about August 4, 2025.
  • 195 Work Days
  • The end work date is on or about June 4, 2026
  • The base salary shall range from $140,000 to $145,000 (this amount does not reflect the Board-paid TRS).
