Description

Job Purpose Summary: The Director of Sustainability will lead the company's environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives, ensuring sustainability is embedded across the organization. This role will develop and implement sustainability strategies that align with corporate goals, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices, with a focus on reducing environmental impact, driving sustainable sourcing, and engaging stakeholders

Essential Job Functions:

Strategy & Leadership:
  • Develop and execute a company-wide sustainability strategy that aligns with business objectives and industry trends.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability into operations, product development, supply chain, and marketing.
  • Stay ahead of sustainability trends, emerging regulations, and best practices within the CPG and food manufacturing sectors.
  • Represent the company in sustainability-focused industry groups, associations, and conferences.


Environmental & Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, including California-specific mandates such as Proposition 65, Cap-and-Trade, and the California Climate Action Plan.
  • Manage sustainability reporting and disclosures, including carbon footprint assessments, ESG reporting (e.g., CDP, GRI, SASB), and regulatory filings.
  • Work with R&D and packaging teams to drive initiatives such as waste reduction, recyclability, and sustainable packaging innovations.


Sustainable Sourcing & Supply Chain:
  • Partner with procurement teams to enhance sustainable sourcing strategies for raw materials, ingredients, and packaging.
  • Establish supplier sustainability guidelines and conduct audits to ensure compliance with ethical and environmental standards.
  • Drive initiatives to reduce water and energy consumption, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and food waste throughout the supply chain.


Stakeholder Engagement & Communication:
  • Collaborate with internal departments (Marketing, HR, Operations) to integrate sustainability messaging and employee engagement programs.
  • Serve as a key spokesperson on sustainability topics, engaging with investors, customers, regulatory bodies, and the media.
  • Develop and oversee corporate sustainability reports, press releases, and marketing materials related to sustainability initiatives.


Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business, Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Experience: 7-10+ years of progressive experience in sustainability, ESG, or corporate responsibility-preferably in a leadership role.
  • Knowledge of Frameworks: Familiarity with ESG reporting standards (GRI, TCFD, SASB, CDP, etc.), life cycle analysis, and regulatory trends.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and manage multiple projects with measurable outcomes.
  • Data & Analysis: Strong skills in sustainability data collection, analysis, and reporting.
