Join our team as a Senior Network Specialist and play a crucial role in designing, maintaining, and upgrading our university's network infrastructure. You'll ensure seamless network operations for faculty, staff, students, and guests.
Responsibilities
- Design & Implementation: Lead the design and implementation of complex network solutions, including enterprise routing protocols like BGP and OSPF.
- Troubleshooting: Provide expert-level troubleshooting for network issues using advanced diagnostic tools and techniques.
- Network Management: Manage a diverse portfolio of networking equipment (Aruba, Juniper, Extreme, Arista) supporting a large fiber-connected campus network.
- Wireless Network: Oversee a large, complex wireless network with over 3000 access points.
- Firewall Solutions: Manage and maintain enterprise firewall solutions.
- Documentation & Maintenance: Maintain comprehensive network documentation and manage the physical upkeep of data closets (IDFs and MDFs).
- Inventory Management: Handle product inventory and storage for the Network Operations department.
- Technical Support: Provide escalated technical support to ensure prompt resolution of network-related issues and high user satisfaction.
- Security Measures: Implement and maintain network security measures to protect against external threats and unauthorized access.
- Phone & Surveillance Systems: Provide oversight, recommendations, and support for the university's phone and video surveillance systems.
- Mentorship & Collaboration: Mentor network staff and collaborate with the Network Manager and other stakeholders to achieve organizational objectives.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Routing Protocols & Network Services: Expert understanding of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) and ancillary network services (DNS, DHCP, IPv4/IPv6 subnetting, NAT).
- TCP/IP Concepts: In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, including switches, routers, firewalls, and data flow through a network.
- Network Security: Advanced understanding of common network security issues and the development of security policies.
- Wireless Network Management: Extensive experience managing wireless networks in a large enterprise environment.
- Firewall Management: At least 3 years of experience managing a leading firewall platform (Fortinet or Palo Alto preferred).
- Customer Service & Teamwork: Strong commitment to customer service and teamwork.
- Analytical Skills: Ability to formulate and communicate logical and sound conclusions and recommendations.
- Experience: Over 7 years of progressive experience managing network technology for a large organization.
- Documentation: Ability to establish and maintain comprehensive documentation.
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside the university.
- Confidentiality: Ability to use tact and diplomacy, maintaining a high level of confidentiality.
- Writing Skills: Proficiency in preparing clear, concise, and grammatically correct business correspondence.
Desired Qualifications
- Network Platforms & Services: Demonstrated expertise in two or more of the following: HPE, Aruba, Extreme, Fortinet, F5, and Arista.
- Network Access Control: Experience with Aruba ClearPass or similar network access control technologies.
- Cloud Fabric: Experience with Arista Converged Cloud Fabric.
- Certifications: Relevant computer industry certifications (e.g., Cisco, CompTIA).
- Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
