Description:

The Director of Social Services is a leadership role within the Community Support Center (CSC), responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing social services, mental wellness initiatives, and spiritual care services across HumanGood Life Plan Communities (LPCs). This position also collaborates with the Affordable Housing (AH) Resident Service Coordinator program to optimize resources and align approaches, as appropriate.

With a focus on mental wellness, emotional health, life transitions, spiritual care, and access to resources, the Director ensures consistency and excellence in social services and spiritual care across all levels of living. Additionally, they provide strategic oversight to enhance case management, mental health services, and ensure meaningful opportunities for spiritual support and faith-based engagement. This role involves long-term planning to foster a person-centered approach that empowers residents to thrive in all dimensions of well-being.

Social Services & Spiritual Care Programming
  • Oversee the provision of impactful programs that support emotional wellness, and spiritual and faith-based engagement across all Life Plan Communities.
  • Engage in ongoing dialogue with stakeholders (AH and LPC residents; leadership; team members, families) to identify trends and emerging issues in social services and psycho-social-emotional well-being.
  • Conduct regular meetings with Life Plan and Affordable Housing members to ensure consistency of team approach in mental wellness, social services, and spiritual care.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team (example: community life, spiritual care, healthcare, memory support) to develop and implement standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures for delivering mental wellness, social services, and spiritual care across all levels of care.
  • Use appropriate tools and departmental scorecards to evaluate program effectiveness, assess gaps, and identify ongoing needs.
  • Support communities in maintaining access to social services, mental health resources, and spiritual support, including counseling, support groups, and education programs.
  • Work with the healthcare team to ensure access to geriatric psychiatric and pharmaceutical consulting.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to support social service designees and other social workers in the skilled nursing level of living.

Training & Capacity Building
  • Develop and implement training programs for social service and spiritual care team members, caregivers, and families.
  • Foster education and awareness on ethical, cultural, and spiritual topics affecting resident care and family interactions.
  • Conduct regular meetings with LPC social workers and spiritual care directors to ensure a consistent, team-based approach.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance education and resources for all stakeholders.

Strategic Planning & Community Engagement
  • Lead the planning, organization, and strategic development of social services and spiritual care initiatives.
  • Engage in ongoing dialogue with residents, leadership, team members, and families to ensure programs meet evolving needs.
  • Co-lead the Mental Wellness Team with a designated resident as part of the Resident/Team Member Partnership Initiative.
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with community organizations and faith-based institutions to enhance support services.
  • Collaborate with the HumanGood Foundation, when appropriate, to secure funding opportunities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and statutes related to social services and mental wellness to ensure compliance.

Financial & Administrative Oversight
  • Develop and manage the departmental budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Oversee data collection, reporting, and compliance with grant/funding requirements, as relevant.

To be successful in this role, you would have:
  • Master's degree in social work or a closely related clinical field is required
  • A professional licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) is strongly preferred
  • A minimum of five years of clinical and supervisory experience is required
  • Ability to travel 40-45% of the time

Compensation: $125,000-140,000 depending on experience and location

Location: this position is hybrid, requiring approximately 40%-45% travel to communities nationwide. Candidates must be located in a state in which HumanGood operates to be considered. Proximity to Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Philadelphia is preferred.
