POSITION DESCRIPTION:
An SIHF Dentist role involves providing high-quality, comprehensive dental care services to a diverse pediatric patient population in an outpatient clinic setting. The Dentist will work in a collaborative environment with other dental professionals, physicians, and support staff to ensure the delivery of accessible and compassionate dental care. This role includes both direct patient care and patient education, with a strong focus on preventive care, early intervention, and community health initiatives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide direct pediatric dental care, including routine exams, diagnostic evaluations, preventative treatments (such as fluoride treatments and sealants), and restorative procedures. Perform health assessments, including oral health exams, diagnostic tests, and treatment plans, while managing acute and chronic dental conditions. Administer immunizations (where applicable), prescribe medications, and provide patients and families on oral health practices and hygiene. Conduct preventative dental care services, including dental screenings, health screenings, and early childhood dental care education. Collaborate with other medical professionals, including dental assistants, and specialists, to provide comprehensive and coordinated care for pediatric and adolescent patients. Work with patients to promote oral health through education, addressing topics such as proper brushing and flossing, nutrition, and habits that promote long-term oral health. Address the unique needs of underserved populations, providing culturally sensitive care and understanding the impact of social determinants on oral health. Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, including medical assistants, dental assistants, nurses, case managers, and behavioral health specialists to ensure holistic patient care. Participate in community outreach programs to raise awareness about oral health, prevention, and dental care education for children and their families. Attend all relevant clinical department meetings, pertinent health care facility site meetings, and any additional meetings that may arise, necessitating the provider's participation. Document all patient encounters in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) accurately and in a timely manner. Ensure compliance with healthcare policies, procedures, and regulations, including those specific to FQHCs, such as the Health Center Program and HIPAA guidelines. Maintain continuing education and professional development to stay current with evidence-based practices and clinical guidelines. Act as a role model for the healthcare team in terms of professionalism, patient care, and communication. Adhere to the practice of confidentiality regarding patients, families, staff and the organization. Comply with applicable laws and regulations with respect to collaborative agreements. Comply with SIHF Healthcare policies. Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Extensive knowledge of dental practices, including preventive care, treatment of dental conditions, and management of child behavior during dental visits. Strong understanding of patient care management across diverse populations, particularly in underserved communities. Ability to work effectively with children and adolescent patients, including those with special healthcare needs, and their families. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of healthcare professionals in a collaborative team-based environment. Strong communication skills, with the ability to educate and engage patients in their healthcare decisions. Proficiency in the use of electronic health records (EHR) and other healthcare technology. Ability to manage a diverse caseload while balancing patient care with administrative responsibilities. Cultural competency to work with patients from a variety of racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Ability to educate patients on lifestyle modifications, preventive care, and self-management of chronic conditions. Strong organizational and time management skills, ensuring efficient patient flow and quality care. Ability to adapt to the needs of an FQHC setting, working with both underserved and vulnerable populations. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically and make clinical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Illinois Dental licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of Illinois. Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from an accredited dental school required. Two plus years of experience as a dentist, preferably in pediatric and adolescent is preferred.

Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of a clinical nature. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday dayshift, unless otherwise specified by management staff. Travel to other clinical locations may be required.
