Description

Summary:

The Corporate Tool & Die Manager is responsible for overseeing the design, construction, maintenance, and repair of tools, dies, and fixtures to support all Hynes manufacturing operations. This role ensures the efficient operation of the tool & die department, managing personnel, workflow, and resources while maintaining high-quality standards and adherence to safety regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Includes the following:
  • Supervise the tool & die teams, providing leadership, training, and performance management.
  • Develop and implement procedures for the design, fabrication, maintenance, and repair of tools and dies.
  • Oversee tooling projects from concept through completion, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to optimize tooling designs and manufacturing processes.
  • Manage department budgets, inventory, and procurement of materials and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve tooling and die-related issues to minimize downtime and maintain efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, cost-effectiveness, and quality.
  • Keep up to date with industry advancements and implement new technologies where applicable.
  • Maintain and improve existing apprenticeship program to develop talent within Hynes
  • Execute a strategic growth plan for the company to ensure long-term growth
  • Oversee the development of Hynes employees to become self-sufficient in the production of roll tooling and programming for dies.
  • Participate as a member of the Tooling Review Committee evaluating and approving new designs.
  • Coordinate resources to ensure tool & die teams are supporting production on a timely basis.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


Qualifications Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor's degree in engineering, Manufacturing, or related field preferred - these candidates should be given priority
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in tool & die making, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, machining, and die maintenance techniques.
  • Strong understanding of stamping, forming, and other manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and industry best practices.


Physical Requirements:

Medium to moderate physical exertion required for the following:
  • Moving tooling and materials with lift trucks, hoists and cranes.
  • Mounting tooling in roll forming mills
  • Handling pieces to be stacked into bundles or baskets
  • Setting up racks on out-going wagons

Must be able to mount tooling that weighs up to 60 lbs. with the assistance of lift trucks, hoists, and cranes.
