Job Title: Cytotechnologist II

Job Specialty: Pathology Lab - Cytology

Job Duration: 13 weeks

Shift: 8-hour days (8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday)

Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in Cytology

License: Successful completion of an accredited cytotechnology program

Certifications: ASCP CT certification required

Must-Have:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited cytology program
- Strong knowledge of biology, anatomy, and physiology
- Proficient in cytological preparation techniques
- Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills

Job Description:

- Reporting to the Cytology Technical Lead and the Pathology Department Manager, the Cytotechnologist II is responsible for screening slides of clinical specimens for cancer and other pathological conditions.
- Participate in routine quality control and cellular evaluations for specimen adequacy, providing procedural support and specimen processing as needed.
- Maintain professionalism and demonstrate respect for patients and others, placing the well-being of patients as a priority.
- Ensure timely responsiveness to patients, families, and coworkers, and accurately and thoroughly complete assigned tasks.
- Coordinate with coworkers and departments to facilitate integrated patient care.
- Adhere to organizational policies for attendance, punctuality, and resource management, and support financial management practices.
- Follow safety management protocols and demonstrate safe practices within the lab.
- Examine cellular samples microscopically to detect abnormalities and determine provisional diagnoses, alerting pathologists to abnormal findings.
- Assist pathologists in fine needle aspiration procedures, particularly in determining cellular adequacy.
- Prepare specimens for examination and ensure compliance with quality control requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare statistical reports on work performed.
- Stay updated with current trends and developments in cytology through continuing education and training.
- Instruct and monitor new hires and contribute to continuous quality improvement efforts.
