Wood is recruiting for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join its BioProducts Canada business focusing on mechanical and piping engineering for pulp & paper, biomass, and related infrastructure. This opportunity is hybrid, based in either Vancouver, BC or Grande Prairie, AB.

The Role
As Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will guide a mechanical team on medium-sized multi-discipline projects, from concept through final implementation. You will ensure designs align with Wood and client standards, oversee equipment specifications, and support mechanical and piping layout and analysis, contributing to successful project delivery across the BioProducts sector.

Salary range for this position is $140,000 - $170,000

Responsibilities
Lead a mechanical team on medium-sized, multi-discipline projects
Oversee full project lifecycle, from concept to implementation
Ensure compliance with client, industry, and regulatory standards
Support layout and evaluation of mechanical equipment and piping systems
Manage project budgets, scope, and schedules
Prepare technical reports, documentation, and specifications
Conduct sizing calculations for pumps, piping, pressure vessels, and exchangers
Develop piping specifications and conduct stress analysis (e.g., Caesar II)
Collaborate across disciplines and maintain strong team communication
Supervise and mentor junior engineers and designers
Stay current with trends and technologies relevant to mechanical engineering
Qualifications

Expected:
Minimum 5 years as a Lead Mechanical Engineer
10+ years of heavy industrial experience, including pulp and paper projects
Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Mechanical Engineering
P.Eng designation in British Columbia or other Canadian province
Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment (static & rotating) and piping
Familiarity with ASME, API, and Canadian codes
Proficiency in English communication
Ability to work both independently and in multi-disciplinary teams
Permanent residency or citizenship in Canada
Desirable:
Quebec (OIQ) or US PE designation
Experience with Caesar II or similar analysis software
Knowledge of process design is an asset
French language skills are considered an asset
