ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, LEGAL (COMMERCIAL)

Ionis is seeking an attorney with at least 5 years of experience for a commercial-stage life sciences company (in-house or via a combination of law firm/government/in-house). Reporting to the Director and Associate General Counsel, this attorney would work as part of a department of nine attorneys, six paralegals, and other team members. This individual will provide legal support to the teams supporting the commercialization of Ionis' medicines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a key member of the commercial legal team, specific responsibilities include:

• Drafting, reviewing, editing and negotiating contracts for various teams, including Commercial Operations, HEOR, Marketing, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Patient Advocacy, Patient Services, and New Product Strategy;
• Developing and maintaining related contract templates in collaboration with internal stakeholders and legal team colleagues; and
• Advising teams on related issues, including business strategies, tactical plan development and implementation.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Strong knowledge of, and experience with legal and compliance issues relevant to commercial-stage pharmaceutical companies, including the Anti-Kickback Statute, False Claims Act, Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, HIPAA and other privacy laws, and pricing
• A strong command of drug distribution/supply chain issues
• Experience drafting and negotiating payor and other commercial contracts for pharmaceutical companies
• Must demonstrate clear and concise verbal and written communication skills and superb emotional intelligence in working with others
• Ability to apply the right combination of technical skill, good judgment and common sense to resolve complex issues in an appropriate and practical manner
• Must demonstrate a record of consistently building and fostering trusted relationships with internal stakeholders and colleagues and must thrive working in a fast-paced, team environment
• Must be a reliable and responsive advisor, be capable of independent and self-motivated work while also being a constructive collaborator, and able to juggle competing priorities in an evolving environment
• A Juris Doctorate degree and licensed with the California or New York State Bar (exceptions may be considered)
