Introduction
We're seeking an outstanding technical writer and executive communications professional with broad communications experience to promote greater awareness and understanding of the differentiation and value of IBM's software to target audiences.
This includes strategic planning, message building (tailoring level of technical depth by audience), and preparing the senior executive for all engagements. Reporting into the IBMer Communications team, you will work with leaders to curate and create software-led storytelling for developers, tech enthusiasts, AI superfans, and C-suite decision makers.
To be successful you must live and breathe AI, obsess over precision and clarity, and have the ability to develop, customize and communicate IBM's software value to target audiences. You're endlessly curious, learning new technical concepts and software products quickly and can turn complex ideas into appropriate messages for each audience.
This role requires a minimum three days of in-office at IBM's San Francisco, CA, office -- or IBM's Silicon Valley Software Lab in San Jose, CA, depending on executive travel -- providing a blend of personal flexibility access to leadership and a thriving in-office environment.
Your role and responsibilities
Our Corporate Affairs team drives broad, cross-company reputation and positioning initiatives by bringing together complimentary functions that shape perceptions of the company among specific audiences: top tier reporters, industry analysts, current or potential clients, and IBMers. As part of Corporate Affairs, the IBMer Communications team works directly with IBM's senior leadership on internal and external narratives and ensures all content aligns to business strategy and goals.

We're seeking an outstanding communications professional with the right experience, expertise and enthusiasm to lead executive communications for the Senior Vice President and global leader of Software at IBM. To be successful, you must come to work with a growth mindset, be comfortable working autonomously, embrace collaborating with large cross-company, multi-disciplinary and global teams, and have the ability to translate and write about complex technical concepts.
Key responsibilities:
Lead the executive and internal communications plan for IBM Software.
Write with technical depth and detail in a clear, consumable way.
Create messages around complex software concepts and products -- Enterprise AI, APIs, SDKs, LLMs, RAG, Agents, etc.
Collaborate with software teams and leaders, performing independent research to inform your work.
Explore and create new internal and external assets including short-form videos, visuals, keynotes, white papers, etc.
Plan, produce and publish weekly software-led content on LinkedIn and explore additional channels to grow existing audiences.
Help lead on copywriting and content creation to amplify our new products and technology in close collaboration with internal stakeholders across IBM.
Engage with the developer community directly to inform strategy.
Master an understanding of IBM's product portfolio quickly and be able to teach others what you know.
Foster two-way conversations on social media and through IBM's TechXchange community to build strong relationships to drive awareness and adoption of IBM's technology.
Work with the marketing team on insights and recommendations help support content strategy.
Provide employees with the knowledge, information, and clear calls to action needed to work effectively and deliver business results, while also building their belief in and advocacy for the IBM brand.
Required education
Bachelor's Degree
Required technical and professional expertise
Preferred technical and professional experience
5+ years of experience as a technical writer with a developer audience.
Direct experience with enterprise technology companies.
Successful track record supporting a senior leader within a company that has a large, diverse employee population.
Strategic communication and project management skills and ability to work on simultaneous high visibility projects.
