All positions at the public education department are based in Santa Fe however some may operate through our Albuquerque office based on home address and space availability.

The Office of Special Education will provide supports to districts, parents and SWDs to ensure outcomes of a free appropriate public education for students protected under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). We will review data to make decisions that will impact support for SWDs to meet college and career ready standards through equitable access to rigorous courses, high-quality instruction, and appropriate supports.

Why does the job exist?

This position supervises the OSE Data Team, which is responsible for managing all special education-related data submissions, validation,
analysis, and reporting. Supervisory responsibilities include:
o Assigning and managing workloads
o Conducting performance evaluations and coaching
o Providing targeted technical assistance to LEAs
o Ensuring accurate and timely data collection and submission
o Leading professional development for internal staff and external stakeholders on data requirements and use.

How does it get done?

o Lead and Support the OSE Data Team (50%): Supervise staff in data collection, analysis, and technical assistance. Provide coaching, professional development, and ensure alignment with state
and federal special education data requirements.
o Monitor and Certify Data for Federal and State Requirements (20%): Review, validate, and certify all special education data related to the State Performance Plan/Annual Performance Report
(SPP/APR) and IDEA-B compliance indicators.
o Design, Process, and Present Data for Stakeholder Use (10%): Ensure high-quality data visualizations and reports that inform internal planning, policy development, and communication with
districts and external stakeholders.
o Analyze Trends and Optimize Programmatic Outcomes (10%): Interpret data trends to support decision-making, continuous improvement, and alignment with state targets related to student
achievement and program implementation.
o Interdepartmental Collaboration (10%): Coordinate with other divisions such as IT, Assessment, and PED's central data team to align data systems, meet federal reporting deadlines, and
troubleshoot issues with LEA submissions.

This position supports the Office of Special Education, the Public Education Department, and indirectly serves LEAs, charter schools, and Tribal communities across New Mexico. Most importantly, the work benefits students with disabilities by ensuring programs are informed by accurate, actionable data and compliant with federal regulations.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration, or Business Administration and five (5) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling nine (9) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
