PURPOSE:

Our Actuarial Analysts are known in the organization for being the experts in providing insights to many teams, including claims, finance, and underwriting; allowing us the ability to best serve our customers while mitigating risk. They use their strong actuarial knowledge to analyse trends, identifying emerging risks and ensuring pricing strategies align with business objectives. The team leverages data-driven insights to enhance rate adequacy, competitiveness, and profitability across the commercial portfolio.

Working in collaboration with other actuaries and data scientists within our team, there are opportunities to utilize advanced analytics, and predictive modeling to refine pricing structure and ensure that Northbridge stays on the cutting edge in this competitive industry.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Large Account Pricing and Experience Rating

  • Use actuarial techniques to price complex commercial risks and ensure rate adequacy.
  • Develop and validate key assumptions to support pricing accuracy and decision-making.
  • Understand products, underwriting strategies, and market dynamics to provide informed recommendations.
  • Clearly document methodologies to make complex actuarial concepts accessible.
  • Effectively communicate results and recommendations to non-actuarial stakeholders.


Perform Deep Dive Analysis

  • Investigate trends in losses, premiums, and exposures to uncover underlying causes of performance challenges.
  • Perform in-depth assessments of specific segments, risk factors, and emerging issues.
  • Translate complex data into clear findings that inform pricing, underwriting and business decision.
  • Communicate results of various analyses to management and other stakeholders.


Review Actuarial Planning Indications

  • Analyse historical performance of planning segments to identify trends.
  • Use actuarial techniques and market data to forecast future performance.
  • Communicate results and assist regional stakeholders in selecting planning loss ratio and rate changes.


Develop and Enhance Pricing Optimization

  • Build, refine and maintain actuarial pricing predictive models to reflect emerging trends and market conditions.
  • Gather feedback from business stakeholders on rates, ensuring the pricing strategy aligns with market.
  • Collaborate with regional stakeholders to review rate strategies and ensure alignment with business objectives.


Supervise and provide assistance, training and coaching to other employees to efficiently use standard actuarial techniques.

We want your talent:

If you have:
  • Post-secondary education with a major in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Associate or near-Associate designation with CAS or CIA
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an actuarial related field
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial insurance product and strong understanding of actuarial pricing techniques (including GLMs and other statistical models)
  • Advanced proficiency in actuarial tools and programming languages such as Excel, PowerPoint, SAS, SQL and Python.
  • High preference for candidates with Quebec market experience and bilingual proficiency (English & French)
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts and findings to non-actuarial stakeholders.
