What Is the Opportunity?

As the Director, Business Resiliency and Controls, you will work in close partnership with the Enterprise Business Resiliency team to support the implementation and provide oversight of the business resiliency strategy for Travelers Canada. Serving as the Business Resiliency Core Delegate for Canada, you will collaborate with senior leaders, key stakeholders, and the Director of Regulatory Risk Management to ensure that business resiliency risks are effectively tested, mitigated, and any identified gaps are addressed in a timely manner. This includes oversight of third-party resiliency risks to ensure appropriate mitigation strategies are in place. In addition, you will play a key role in supporting business partners in maintaining strong internal controls. Your expertise will help ensure that controls are appropriately designed, operating effectively, and that any deficiencies are resolved proactively and efficiently. As a senior leader within the Risk Management team, you will report on emerging trends, risk observations, and ensure ongoing alignment with stakeholder expectations, regulatory guidelines, and industry best practices. Your contributions will be critical to strengthening operational resiliency and enhancing risk management across Travelers Canada.What Will You Do?
  • Serve as the Business Resiliency Core Delegate for Canada, influencing and overseeing adherence to the Enterprise Business Resiliency Strategy and program across all Canada teams.
  • Lead and facilitate business resiliency tests and tabletop exercises with business partners to assess and enhance the effectiveness of business resiliency plans for Travelers Canada.
  • Evaluate the completeness and accuracy of business resiliency plans and related risk assessments to ensure appropriate operational resiliency and risk mitigation are in place.
  • Ensure the business resiliency program complies with regulatory guidelines and expectations.
  • Partner with Corporate Security, Technology, Facilities and the Management Committee to support crisis management responses that are timely, thorough and resilient.
  • Capture lessons learned from incidents and ensure they are integrated into future business resiliency planning.
  • Build strong relationships with business resiliency leaders across the organization to share best practices and incorporate them into the Canadian strategy.
  • Support business process owners in maintaining a robust and well-executed internal control environment that meets stakeholder expectations (e.g., internal/external audit, regulatory, and Finance).
  • Provide subject matter expertise on internal control design, effectiveness, remediation, testing, and documentation.
  • Promote a culture of proactive, timely, and efficient remediation of internal control gaps.
  • Partner with process owners to oversee and support ad hoc internal control enhancement or remediation projects.
  • Ensure SOX controls are appropriately designed, executed, and certified by business process owners on a quarterly basis.
  • Champion awareness of internal controls and business resiliency through ongoing education and training initiatives.
  • Promote internal control and business resiliency awareness through education and training.
  • Prepare and deliver reports to senior management, the Executive Risk Committee, and/or the Board of Directors on the status and key observations related to business resiliency and internal controls.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
  • 8-10+ years experience in business, insurance, risk management and/or audit areas.
  • Experience with internal controls and/or business resiliency.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage effectively across all levels of the organization.


What is a Must Have?
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant business experience.
  • Undergraduate education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong leadership experience, communication and negotiation skills.
  • In-depth understanding of the relationships between financial, technical and operational risk and controls.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
