Job Responsibilities
The Office of Leadership Effectiveness seeks to permanently reduce the number of low performing schools in South Carolina by supporting and building local expertise for sustained improvement. The School Transformation Coach will work with stakeholders in assigned schools and/or districts to develop or improve systems/processes and to develop/reinforce a culture of continuous improvement. Transformation coaches serve as on-the-ground support for implementation and monitoring of school improvement efforts under South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) school improvement initiatives and other agency programs.

The person in this position will build the capacity of faculty and staff members to engage in a long-term improvement of school and/or district instructional processes based on examination of multiple data, best practices, and external review recommendations. Provide coaching, training, mentoring, and critical feedback as needed to instructional staff. Foster collaboration and collegiality among the staff through team building, co-teaching, professional development, and collaborative planning. Build improvement structures to increase academic capacity and teacher leadership. Monitor and support the improvement of instructional practices of teachers that ensure student success. Provide guidance for collecting, analyzing, and tracking data from a variety of sources to make informed decisions. Provide leadership and support in the design and implementation of improvement planning, assessment, and data analysis. Ensure curriculum, instruction and assessments are monitored and adjusted systematically at the classroom level in response to data from multiple assessments of student learning and an examination of professional practice. Establish, coordinate and facilitate job-embedded, ongoing professional development opportunities for teachers and administrators. Work with teachers to identify areas of growth that will enhance their skill sets. Disseminate information to teachers regarding best practices in classroom instruction, assessment, technology, and rural, high poverty, high minority student needs. Work with the school and/or district to ensure instruction is challenging, aligned to current standards, and meets the needs of all students. Serve as a liaison with the Office of Leadership Effectiveness and South Carolina Department of Education in one or more assigned schools and/or districts. Share current SCDE information and policies with school and/or district personnel, including the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate. Attend all requested meetings and conferences at the local and state levels to connect with stakeholders, improve SCDE implementation and planning, and support your own growth as an agency representative. Communicate closely with your supervisor and team regarding work in your area(s), concerns, and/or upcoming events. Seek out ways to improve the integration and seamlessness of service from the agency as a whole, and coordinate agency activities by setting and context. Perform other assigned duties as requested or assigned.

This position is located in the Office of Leadership Effectiveness.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

A Bachelor's degree and experience in education, management or business.
Preferred Qualifications

A Master's Degree or equivalent; valid school administration certificate; three (3) to five (5) years of successful school turnaround experience in a low-performing school or district.
Additional Comments

In-state and occasional out-of-state travel is required.
