We are seeking a versatile and dynamic Software Development Leader to establish and lead a high-impact enterprise application team supporting mechanical spacecraft development at Project Kuiper. This is a unique opportunity to build a software team from the ground up, focusing on developing new features for engineering tools such as CAD and PLM systems while also creating custom applications to support the full mechanical engineering development lifecycle for mission-critical systems.
Key job responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with mechanical engineering teams to understand their software needs and build a team to address them.
- Develop custom tools and integrations within existing software platforms, including Siemens NX, Teamcenter, Capital, and Xpedition.
- Manage a variable workforce, overseeing integrations and enhancements for these applications.
- Design and develop custom web and enterprise applications to streamline and accelerate hardware development.
- Serve as a liaison between software and hardware development teams, ensuring alignment and efficiency.
A day in the life
As the founding leader of this new team, your initial focus will be working closely with hardware teams to identify needs and execute a hiring plan. As the team takes shape, you will lead multiple projects, ensuring they meet functional requirements and timelines while driving innovation and efficiency in spacecraft development.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Prior experience developing applications for hardware development teams.
- HTMLX + Go stack development
- Experience with PLM systems like Teamcenter

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
