Role

Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of Lands Division, the Executive Director, Lands Planning is responsible for leading Environment and Parks (EPA) participation in and contributions to regional planning and leading the development of sub-regional and issue-specific plans (such as caribou sub-regional plans, water management planning (lakes, watersheds), and linear footprint management plans).

In this ED role, you will be accountable for developing regional outcomes, cumulative effects management approaches including management frameworks for air, water and biodiversity, identification of new potential conservation areas, and development of land management and natural resource objectives and strategies related to EPA's mandate. Delivering these accountabilities involves leadership to a team of senior managers, professionals and technical staff who in turn are accountable for developing sub-regional plans, issue specific plans, water management plans; environmental management frameworks (for air quality, water (quality/quantity), groundwater, and biodiversity); and regional assessments (including modelling and analysis) & socio-economic assessments. You will also lead the transition to implementation of plans, development of cumulative effects decision support tools, reporting of results, and evaluation and improvements to the effectiveness of plans and environmental frameworks.

As a member of the executive leadership team, you will develop timely, coordinated, and comprehensive input into the planning process. You will work effectively and engage collaboratively with cross-ministry partners, and diverse stakeholder groups, including First Nations, Mtis, and industry associations.

The planning system sets out to identify and demonstrate how the environmental, economic, and social outcomes will be met from resource development and conservation efforts. Planning is also a key element of the Integrated Resource Management System (IRMS) in Alberta.

Qualifications

You have extensive related senior management experience with a background in leading teams, developing strategy and directing multi-disciplinary programs in large public sector organizations. You bring exceptional systems approach to strategic and operational planning. Familiarity with applicable legislation and regulations along with an understanding of policies associated with the Land-use Framework and the Integrated Resource Management system will support your success in this role.

Your systems approach will enable you to foster a collaborative culture to work effectively with stakeholders on sensitive issues in a dynamic environment. You are an effective communicator with strong organizational and project management skills. Your reputation for empowering teams and capacity for facilitating change will support your success. A graduate degree and/or a degree with a combination of related experience is preferred.

Salary

$5,234.94 - $6,879.68 bi-weekly ($136,631 - $179,559 annually)
