Reporting to the Team Lead, Employee Health & Ability, this position is responsible and accountable to provide case management for both work related and non-work-related injury/illnesses in a continuously evolving work environment. This position focuses on safe, timely, and suitable return to work to support Covenant Health's mission, vision, and values in transforming health care and creating vibrant communities of health and healing. This is done through a proactive return-to work focus, confirming employees' safe work abilities relative to their job demands, leading return-to-work planning and supporting all stakeholders throughout the process to resolution. You will play a pivotal role to minimize the impact of physical and psychological disabilities for Covenant Health employees in support of our mission.
Description:
Work collaboratively with the employee, management, human resources, benefit department, insurance providers, unions and Occupational Health and Safety team to effectively coordinate management of claims. Provide support to both employees and managers. Serve as primary ability management contact with external insurance/benefit providers (WCB and others). Review all medical aid and lost time employee Incident/Injury forms and follow-up on all lost time claims. Develop and maintain an atmosphere of trust and mutual support with employees and managers. Effectively manage claims within appropriate timelines, acting on return to work barriers. Facilitate return to work opportunities for injured/ill workers by consulting with insurance provider, health care providers, manager, union and human resources advisors. Evaluate employee progress and readiness to return to work. Identify and facilitate ergonomic modifications of the job as required. Facilitate or lead return to work meetings of all stakeholders. Develop written return to work plans and communicate these plans to all stakeholders. Monitor success of return-to-work plans through on-going communication with the employee, manager and Human Resources, making changes as required. Respond to internal and external inquiries. Update the Manager and Team Lead on pertinent issues and concerns. Assists with resolution of employee and manager concerns. Refer employee to EFAP as necessary. This position is non-unionized.
A degree or diploma in Social Sciences, Disability Management, Rehabilitation, Kinesiology, Registered Nurse, or other relative discipline with a minimum of 3 - 5 years of related experience in ability management and return to work facilitation in a unionized environment. Professional licenses in good standing. Ability to multitask and be organized to meet timelines in a high-volume, fast paced environment. Proficient computer knowledge and keyboarding skills are essential.

Analytical skills with a passion for creative problem solving. adaptability, flexibility and strong decision-making skills. Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with medical or rehabilitative terminology is an asset. Knowledge of WCB policy and legislation, short and long-term disability policies and procedures; Human Rights Legislation and Duty to Accommodate. Experience in Disability Management with WCB and other insurance carriers. Knowledge of medical conditions, terminology and ergonomics.
