What You'll Do

Join our Principal Asset Management team as Counsel to provide expert legal guidance in structuring, financing, regulatory, and transactional matters that support Principal Asset Management's Private Assets on our growing global platform.
  • Provide strategic legal advice and support for new product development, structuring, and private investment and fund offerings, with a focus on private credit and direct lending investments
  • Provide support for investment advisory services and related agreements, all in collaboration with colleagues globally
  • Provide accurate, timely, and sound legal advice and recommendations to business unit clients and to executives regarding matters of complexity which have or may have significant risk to business activities and operations. This may include: conducting legal research, consulting with outside counsel, drafting legal documents, and providing work guidance to paralegal and support staff

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of legal experience (minimum for this level); 8+ years is preferred and an option to hire the next level up
  • Expertise with private fund and private asset product development work

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out
  • Experience in support of private credit and direct lending capabilities
  • Experience in US and international regulations regarding investment advisers and investment funds (including private investment structures and private funds)
  • Experience with the Investment Advisers Act and Investment Company Act
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting while excelling independently
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex legal matters into actionable insights
  • Strong judgment and professionalism in applying legal knowledge to business scenarios
  • Informal leadership experience

Requires a law degree from an accredited law school, admittance to the bar in at least one state.

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range

$153000 - $236000 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don't accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

This role offers flexible work arrangements, including in-office, hybrid, or fully remote setups. Collaborate with your leader to identify the best arrangement for you. Principal Asset Management home offices are located in Des Moines, Chicago, Seattle, and Charlotte.
Job Level

We'll consider talent at the next level with the right experiences and skills. This includes at least eight years of legal experience.
