What is the opportunity?

Data Services is responsible for ensuring Capital Markets data is complete, accurate, and fit for purpose to meet business and regulatory needs. As a Senior Associate, you will be responsible for data quality insights. You will act as a key contributor to the execution of critical components of our first-line data strategy and will take ownership of initiatives that span cross-functional teams.
This role requires advanced data analysis skills, the ability to lead conversations and influence outcomes with senior stakeholders, a strong understanding of business-critical and regulatory data needs, and the ability to identify and deliver innovative solutions to solve high-priority data challenges. You will work closely with regulatory teams, Capital Markets desks, and key business stakeholders.
As a member of a dynamic, fast-paced team, you will require exceptional problem-solving skills, leadership acumen, and organizational prowess. A proactive approach with demonstrated ability to set priorities and manage competing demands is critical.

What will you do?

Centralized Data Quality:
  • Serve as the central point of contact for managing data quality observations, ensuring a streamlined and organized approach to resolution.
  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis to pinpoint underlying scenarios in data flows, processes, or systems.

Data Profiling:
  • Perform data profiling activities to evaluate the structure, completeness, and consistency of datasets across multiple domains.
  • Identify patterns, trends, and anomalies within datasets to assess their suitability for business and operational needs.
  • Leverage insights from profiling exercises to enhance data quality, optimize processes, and support root cause analysis and solution design efforts.

Root Cause Analysis and Insights:
  • Analyze commonalities and connections across multiple data quality observations spanning various projects and domains to identify recurring patterns, systemic gaps, or root causes.
  • Leverage insights to eliminate duplication of efforts, improve the efficiency of remediation, and develop proactive strategies.
  • Develop centralized knowledge repositories or frameworks that improve the team's visibility into historical observations and resolutions, enabling continuous learning.

Solution Design and Implementation:
  • Design appropriate and scalable solutions that align with RBC's data strategy and long-term objectives, ensuring solutions meet both business and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate the implementation of solutions by collaborating effectively with stakeholders, technical teams, and relevant business units to ensure timely resolution.
  • Monitor and refine solutions to ensure sustained effectiveness over time.

Strategic Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Collaborate with team members, business users, and senior leaders to provide transparency, progress, and remediation outcomes.
  • Build trusted relationships with stakeholders by clearly communicating findings, actionable recommendations, and strategic insights.
  • Deliver professional presentations, including well-structured PowerPoint decks, to communicate complex scenarios and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Data Governance and Continuous Improvement:
  • Ensure that solutions align with the company's data governance framework, driving adherence to data quality standards and best practices.
  • Actively contribute to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of data quality monitoring and resolution processes while assisting in the development of enhancements to existing tools, controls, and workflows.
  • Drive a culture of excellence by advocating for a proactive approach to identifying and addressing data issues.


What do you need to succeed?

Must Have
  • Expertise in root cause analysis, with demonstrable experience designing and implementing targeted solutions that align with enterprise data strategies.
  • Proven ability to identify common patterns, connections, and shared root causes across a range of data issues to improve the efficiency of remediation processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven track record of managing complex data challenges across multiple domains or projects.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and gain buy-in from multidisciplinary teams, including senior leaders and technical teams.
  • Proficiency in creating professional PowerPoint decks and visually compelling analytics reports to convey findings and outcomes effectively.
  • Excellent data analysis skills, including strong experience with SQL and Python to generate custom queries and analysis, and leveraging Excel to link disparate data sets and trend data.
  • A strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality frameworks, and enterprise data management.
  • A collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset, with a proactive approach to addressing and preventing data issues across the organization.
  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Economics, Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, Math or a related field or 7+ years of experience in the financial services industry (or equivalent).


Nice to Have:
  • Experience with various Capital Market products and trading products lifecycle.
  • Experience writing executable Data Quality rules and/or working with a portfolio of production Data Quality controls across multiple source applications and stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of data lifecycles, including focus on data governance and knowledge of Data Quality classification.
  • Experience working with Python and leveraging python for the analysis of disparate data sets.
  • Knowledge of IBM Information Analyzer/Stewardship Centre, metadata management, and/or Collibra to build and manage Data Quality rules and reporting.
  • Experience with data science methodologies, including machine learning and advanced pattern recognition.
  • Knowledge of global markets business processes and/or experience working with Market/Reference data.
